Do you like Skyrims terrain?

Post » Sat Aug 04, 2012 9:10 pm

I am just wondering because I love the regions of Skyrim, the Rift, Whiterun plains and the frozen tundra. But what I hate are all the damn mountains. I know there are what Skyrim is but I hate them. I look at a big map of Skyrim then think, how much of that can I travel across? I can't get from Riften to Falcreath without passing the mountains which channel you through Helgen and the shrine of Clacious Vile, I have to chose certain routes to get around winterhold. The Reach is amazing in some parts, but channels you in certain parts. It makes me fast travel between that area because its always the same Hunter on horse or imperial soldiers or farmer going through there.
Anyone else find this annoying?

I don't find it to annoying unless I take a follower along. They refuse to climb mountains like I do haha

i don't like much of the mountains too, they are cool, but makes Skyrim feels too small, i love the landscape of Cyrodiil with huge mountains only in the borders and open terrain + forests across the entire province

I love Skyrim's terrain. The mountains are a pain in the butt sometimes, but they contribute to the game's atmosphere. I do think that Bethesda should have included a mountain climbing mechanic, so that your character is seen climbing mountains instead of just running up or down them. They could have called it Acrobatics and made it a Thief skill (add Unarmed and a new form of magic, Necromancy maybe, to provide seventh skills in the other two disciplines). The more your mountain climbing skill increases, the higher you can climb and the less stamina is drained.

I LOVE Skyrim's landscape, big improvement over Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas' terrain. ( which where the only two Beth/Obsidian games I played.)

The majority of my deaths are from Skyrim's terrain (falling off of rocks and stuff).

I find it 'bulky' at times and sometimes I find that Bethesda intended for you to ONLY stay on the paths and not venture off them.

I agree it can be a bit of a pain having to scramble over, or failing that, traverse around mountains... but if you want cheering up, try playing DragonAge for a couple of hours, wherein you are often stymied by tufts of grass or post-rail fences.

More on point... you can often scale mountains on horseback that you can't on foot, although it can be tricky getting down the other side.

The mountains could have a number of natural paths leading up and down to them, in addition to those that are already there. This would make the world a bit more open for the players.

I do like oblivion's landscape better. There's nothing as epic as walking down the road from Bruma and then seeing the imperial city and the forest around. The view from the road up there is amazing.

I love Skyrim's terrain. The land itself seems heavily inspired by New Zealand.

I think it was well done...many different biomes put together in a believable and beautiful way. Terrain definitely isn't one of the TES series problems.

I love Skyrim's landscapes and the variety they threw in was pretty good even though it's known for being a cold snowy province they did a good job of mixing things up. I still get a bit frustrated when I am doing something in the reach though. I still have a hard time navigating in the reach

Second that!

I have a love/hate with the mountains - soooo frustrating trying to find "the" way over them - but when you are on top - OH the view!! And the view of them from various points in Skyrim! I think having more options "up" would make me feel more love, less hate!
