Do you read?

Post » Sun May 26, 2013 4:10 pm

Lately I been noticing people in my area that are around my age(teenagers) and some that are quite older don't read as much or just don't read at all has long there not force too, and even those who are force to read goes on spark notes just to know book and don't waste time reading it. So the question I present is do you read anymore or have people forsaken the art of reading a good book these days.

I read all the time; it's one of my favorite activities, and while university tends to come in the way, I still get time for my books. While I prefer reading physical books, I don't mind reading online or digital copies. I don't think I'll ever stop reading, and I still see plenty of people around me reading books. It seems to be more common here among older people, though (20 and up), so perhaps it's really true that teenagers find books dull and boring. :(

Oh, and I know that at least one person is going to call me out on the last part, so I'll just go ahead and say fine, some teenagers enjoy reading.

I read manga, and I peruse the internet constantly daily, like wikipedia, other sites etc. Not to get hard facts, but just like to get tidbits here and there. Despite Wikipedias bad rep, they have a LOT of valuable, credible information up.

I also read what I need to for college.

I used to read stories, all I read now is really just data, research, on things I'm interested in; all online. I used to like reading stories but the way school works, at least for me, caused me to dislike reading for the most part.

So I don't read books as a hobby, no, but occasionally I find a good book by accident and do read it.

When I have the time. Uni work and preparation for my first teaching prac has eaten all the spare time I used to have. Typically when I'm able to I read as much as I can and as widely as possible.

I read probably every day if I can; if not, a few times a week. I'm reading one book on my phone's Kindle application that I don't find to be particularly amazing, but it's a fun jaunt called Waking Up Married by Mira Lyn Kelly. It was free an easy, entertaining-in-the-wrong-way kinda read, so why not?

In addition to that, I've been reading a few books that could be considered religious/political, depending more on if someone takes offense/interest to them, so I won't mention the titles--two of them deal with memoirs seeped in a certain religious culture and the other studies and discusses healthcare as it's done around the world.

Other than that, I'm reading my grandfather-in-law (is that a thing?)'s memoirs which have been published, and I get to read my mom's memoirs as I'm editing them for her when I can (very rare). And I've begun Education for the Intercultural Experience, which is a book of researched essays concerning language learning and cultural adjustment education. I have to put that one down for now, though, since I have four books going on at once that I'm reading when I can.

Don't take me as someone who reads a lot though. I mean, I would if I could; but to be honest, I'm mainly reading Waking Up Married and one of the borderline religious ones (it's not religious per se, but it deals with a certain religious culture that I am/was/whatever a part of).

EDIT: And I read mostly in paper books, but I have no aversion to reading online when I can.

Faulty poll is faulty. What do those that don't read do when they encounter the 2nd question? There is no "I don't read." option there.

As for myself though I read a good deal I think, been readings many books nonstop for a while now and I have a backlog of many books waiting for me and the list of books grows faster than I can read them so I think I'm golden. Any avid reader will find that even if you read a book a day you're never going to run out of books.

My wife bought a nook. I use it more than her now, though I prefer actual books.
