Do you replay any games?

Post » Thu Sep 20, 2012 1:16 am

Whenever you browse the forums for a specific game, such as Skyrim here on the Bethesda forums or Deus Ex: Human Revolution on the Eidos forums, you constantly hear people talking about the sheer amount of hours people have invested into particular games - playing through them often multiple times. Yet, I am curious as to how many people here actually replay any games they purchase, as I for one can never really bring myself to. For example, I loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution and even now am rather upset to have finished and be done with such a fantastic game. However, despite only playing the game once, I really can't bring myself to playthrough the game again. Same applies to even games such as Skyrim. Does anyone else feel this way or am I just weird?

No, never. Once I put in 10 hours I'm done. $50 well spent.

Apparently that's the [font=sarcasm] font.

Recently I started doing new play throughs of TES/Fallout. But I am a light gamer so on TES/Fallout combined I only have about 1500 hours in it.

Depends on the game. For TES, especially the older games, the amount of replayability is high. So many different ways to play. If you combined TES character creation and Fallouts multiple quest routes, that game would never end.

Generic FPS games are different, and I generally don't replay them unless they are great.

Well, games such as Deus Ex and most RPG games do take me much longer than ten hours, as I like to do all the side-quests and stuff. But, same here in the sense that I never like to replay games. Only games I continuously go back to are online games such as Left 4 Dead.

There are some games I've replayed several times. Some games also have a great replay value, which is very nice.

Strange because, as I said, I don't really replay any games - even amazing RPG games that can be played through with so much variety (The Elder Scrolls, Deus Ex) that replaying the game wouldn't necessarily be all too similar beyond plot.

Yes. I still replay games on DOS and 16-bit consoles.

I always play lots and lots of characters in TES games.
As for other games, especially non-RPGs, it depends.

I've replayed tons of games several times. Even if they're not RPGs.

Usually some time needs to pass before I play it again though.

Some I never replay, others I replay a lot. I think I've done seven or eight playthroughs of KotOR, about six of V:tM - Bloodlines, and I have no idea how many different Morrowind characters I've made. Probably about a dozen that I played through significant portions of the game with.

A question to the OP: Have you played multiplayer games? If so, how long will you play them before you count them as "beaten"? (get bored, don't want to play multiplayer again)

Anyways, depends on the game. I've only beaten uncharted games 2 times each, first on second hardest difficulty and then to chellenge myself, on the hardest. Same applies to quite many games, including Skyrim and Oblivon. But on those it's more than just challenging: it's about testing limits, both of me and the game. Role-play and dead-is-dead keeps me interested.

Almost always, it's a yes. I play games more than one time through.

If it has replay value then sure. If I can try imposing conditions on it as well for a playthough then that gives it some options also. Like playing Quake 2 or Unreal without getting hit once. Undetected runs through Thief etc.

Silent Hill 1,2,3 and Shattered Memories are good for replays for me. Kara No Shojo, Mass Effect 2 and Age of Empires as well.

The only games that I tend to loose interest in are heavily scripted fps titles. So the Call of Duty's and the Half-Life's. No reason to revisit them.

I've replayed a large majority of the games I've bought.

As long as the gameplay is solid, I can usually find reasons to try a game again.

Yes. Eg Red dead, Borderlands, any TES, Max Payne, BIA and GTA etc for me. Sometimes a break from a game makes you want to go back to it.

I replay a lot of the games I buy, but I also never quite officially finish a lot of games I buy. Sounds paradoxal, but often I enjoy the beginning/middle of a game (the building up) a lot more than the finish. Or, in the case of certain RTS games, too difficult (the last campaign missions become horrendously hard or just far too time-consuming/huge to win).

Overall, however, for larger or more ambitious games and big releases, one of the primary things I look for in most games is replayability, so because of this my game collection is full of games I replay/have replayed over and over.

I've put about 1,000 hours in on Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim (each). The only one I played through once and shelved was Fallout New Vegas. Maybe 150 hours there. It may have looked like a Bethesda game, but it didn't feel/sound/play like it. Thanks Obsidian. :glare:

In addition to the ES, FO and GTA games, I've replayed the Hitman games a lot too. Doing missions several times in different ways.

Sometimes I fire up the PS2 and play some of my old games for nostalgias sake.

I've replayed many games, and most games I play through twice, I'll play through three or four times. However, it seems like games that are hailed as 'fantastic', I play through less. For instance, I've played through Deus Ex: Human Revolution only twice, and I don't have much desire to pick it up again, but I've played through Black Ops some seven times, and I'll probably play through it again at the end of the year. Even some games that I've called the best I've ever played will only get one play through from me, like Skyrim.

I guess I identify more with some stories than others.

I really only replay RPGs, online games, or something that has a secondary objective where you collect things (for example: Uncharted). I'm just really OCD about trying to collect everything if it's a linear game.

Not as often anymore. I just do not have the time but I usually have the money so I would rather experience a new game than replay an old one. I still do replay games though. Just not like I used too. FFX like 5 times. Zelda: OoT like 15 times. Zelda: LttP like 10 times. Oblivion like 5 times. Fallout 3 and NV like 4 times each, Halo: CE and other Halo games like 253644 times with my Brothers. When you are younger you usually have less money and more time so replaying games is a more attractive endeavor imo. By younger I mean in elementary-High School.
