Didn't they explain
Spoiler
that Alduin ressurrected a lot of them and some came out after millenia of hiding?

Also, dragons in TES don't breed - so there are no dragon eggs.

Dragons don't reproduce, they're pretty much just fragments of Akatosh or the Aederic equivelent of Dremora and their kinth.

"There is no credible story of how dragons came to be. According to dremora that the College of Whispers have "questioned," they just were, and are. Eternal, immortal, unchanging, and unyielding. They are not born or hatched. They do not mate or breed. There are no known examples of dragon eggs or dragonlings." There Be Dragons.

No. They're merely beings that are a constant of Mundus, constructed of Akatosh, and as immortal as their daedric equivalents.

So what happens when a dragon is defeated by a non-dragonborn? Say something equally tough, like one of Skyrim's bears, puts it down instead? Supposedly only a dragonborn can permanently kill a dragon.

I prefer my dremora comparison, as it's a bit more accurate and respectful.

shards of Akatosh ... interesting
they come off godlike in a way if they are eternal , immortal etc
but yet they are killable , and the first dragon born "devours them "
so once the die where do there souls go other then being absorbed by a dragon born ....
maybe thats why during the first Skyrim trailer that voice say's " there's one they fear..... in their tongue he is known as Dovahkiin ... DRAGONBORN!"
however ive seen guards kill dragons in the game and the dragons corps just lays there .

blah blah blah blah now im babbling :)
