Your Favorite little moments in life, what are they? Read OP

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 2:34 pm

This thread is not about your favorite single moments in life. It is not for things like the first time you saw the grand canyon, or the moment your child was born. This is for those little moments that happen more than just a few times. Something that may occur everyday or just often enough to not be incredibly significant in terms of rarity. That small amount of time where you just feel good about something because of the moment.

I will give an example of my own.

After a day spent surfing, feeling sunburnt and dehydrated, myself and several friends go over to my friend's garage to wind down. This is where we have to keep the noise down(so long as it is below screaming levels we are usually fine) so we do not wake up his baby son or bother his wife. There are several animals in this area in cages(rodeo people). The air smells of mosquito punks and the smell of barely repressed pig and dog [censored]/piss. We have the Stereo playing hip hop instrumentals and we are all messing with each other free flowing to the beat and drinking Heineken Beer. We are not very good. It is in these moments when I feel a real sense of calm and peace, even when I do not drink. It is one of those little moments I would hate to ever have to give up.

So what are your little moments?

When I meet friends I don't see very often and we go and do something, could be anything from watching a movie to fishing.

First thing in the morning, my 2 year old creeps in and gets into bed with me. She brings her blankie and her baby horsie, and we just snuggle until the alarm goes off. Bliss.

Waking up each day, and reading an article about a stupid stunt someone pulled with it being reported by the news. It serves as a little pick me up, and reminds me that no matter how bad I feel there are stupid people who are worse off than me. Just read an article online about a woman who attacked her husband because he read The Onion and 1 other journal. The woman's response was that she believes those 2 pieces of news are illicit material. *shakes head in shame*

I walked outside my house the other day, the sky was a shade of orange, and the perfect breeze, not too cold or hot, was flowing. I just stared at the tall grass blowing in said breeze, for what seems like forever. Haven't felt a peace like that for a long time.

Coming off the stage with my band after a gig where we played well. It doesn't matter if the audience weren't really into it. As long as we played well enough to be happy with ourselves, that's all that matters.

A few beers on a Saturday night with my best friend.

Collapsing into my own bed after a long time away from home.

Visiting my grandmother and doing odd jobs around the house that she's no longer able to do.

I could go on. Even though I'm generally quite pessimistic, there's no denying that sometimes life is great. :)

The smell of fresh dirt/sand, the smell and look of towering pines, the sound of flowing water, the sound of wind through quaking aspens, the sound of birds chirping, laying on a rock an getting some sun, talking and laughing with my wife and friends, sitting under the shade of a tree and feeling the sun light dance on my face as it breaks through the leaves... pretty much camping in general.

I can think of a couple

Lying in bed on a morning and being very comfortable.

Not being nagged and generally having a lazy day .

Having a window open at night and looking out at the view with a cool breeze, the smells the sounds etc, its quite relaxing.

Watching silly videos on youtube of people falling over or cute animals (its a drug to me)

My mind is blown away by the level of awesome in this video

Every time I crush a spider's life from it, I'm forced to smile.

Also, getting awesome clutch moments in games like Gears of War. 3v1s and stuff, they're just so awesome.

This reminded me of a certain song by The Lonely Island... "A breeze rolls in and I..."

Nice posts guys. Keep em coming. I will try a slightly more relate-able moment this time(for this forum at least).

That moment when you stay up till the morning light cracks through your windows after a night playing an exciting video game. You fall asleep to the sounds of birds chirping and the noises of the morning countryside

(I Live in a rural-ish area on the Island of Kaua'i, in Hawai'i. Experiences may differ with this one but I can imagine city/mainland life may have its own charm in the morning for some people)

Very, there is a towel on the bathroom floor, it has been there for 3 days. I refuse to go near it because I saw a spider there. My girlfriend refuses to pick it up because she wants me to pick it up. This is an endless war, war of the spiders. In short I don't stomp spiders, I fear the reprisal from the spiders friends.

Spider's need to eat so it probably is LOOOOOONNNNGGGGG gone and somewhere else in your house lurking and plotting your demise just relaxing if that makes you feel better.

Actually it was their fault. When I was like 9, I was reading a book, and one landed on my glasses. Then my mom slapped it off my face (a long with my face, lol)
Then when I was like 12, I woke up with a spider on my face.
They declared war!!! lol. It's not like I actually hunt them. If they get too close to me, I grab a shoe, and poof. :)

That moment in the evening when I'm comfortable in my bed, having just finished my reading for the night, when I'm almost asleep... And then a couple of drunken idiots from the bar across the street start shouting at the top of their lungs. Or that moment the morning after, when you're woken up way too bloody early because your neighbours are having breakfast with their church group while singing gospel songs.

Oh wait, right. Happy moments. :P

Some of my favourite times are when I′m walking through the city in the middle of the night, with nobody else around, enjoying the quiet, the reflection of the lights on the water of the canols and the sight of the beautiful 17th century buildings. Evening walks are bliss.

Suddenly made me think of drunken idiots. Which makes me think of those moments where you have drunk so much that you know the next day, possibly two days will be pure pain. You wake up after drinking your weight in alcohol to find you've escaped a hangover. Happened a few times to me, not sure how/why this happens but either way its fantastic.

The following is not all that frequent for me but what I hope will count since it can be for someone else. I remember canoeing in Colorado River with my Boy Scout troop and my brother. My brother was my canoeing partner and I remember after so much rowing, I was dehydrated so much that I was blue in the face. Then one of my favorite moments in life was this one yet it's something that can obviously happen quite frequently which is filling my sun hat with the river's cold and most refreshing water and pouring it on my head. Also another one of my most exciting night time moments was when I beat my brother in a video game for the xbox 1 named Fifa soccer 2003 and beating him 24 straight times in one night and he couldn't take it anymore and like stopped the whole playing. Another video game moment was when I was playing Two Worlds 1 on the xbox 360 and it was one of the best games I played. It was so exciting that I couldn't wait to see what the nest town looked like and the next bandit site looked like and so forth and so forth. Also playing Fallout 3 for the first time on xbox 360 was legendary for me.

Both of those are human faults.

Just those sunny days with a nice breeze. Not too hot, not too cold, just nice. Sit outside with a drink and maybe a Discworld novel for a bit. Relaxing.
