Hello to all the lorelovers, and thank you for coming.

I have been following this lore forum after playing Morrowind and Skyrim, reading your ideas. At first, I was interested in adapting the Elder Scrolls universe to tabletop RPG, for my table. But as I began to write, I found myself having ideas that would require a new universe. My ideas wouldn't quite fit in ES, and those I showed them liked it a lot.

I'm, right now, "world-building", and come here because I respect the monkey-truths you guys develop, and would like to, someday, have an universe that compels people to do the same. So, what do you like in ES or other fictions, what would you like to see in one, and what suggestions you may have for me?

Thanks once again for sharing.

Hmm. Mystery. I think that's what motivates us to keep coming back here.

TES developed the other way around, I think. From tabletop DnD.

A mixture of gray/black/white morality and sensical motivations for major players actions. Like Mehrunes Dagon wasn't trying to destroy the world or just invade it for whatever reason. He was debatable trying to get his own realm back and poasibly find the remains of the previous Kalpa for his use.

History should be biased whenever possible. That does not exclude truth. Some sources can be very credible and just presented in a biased way. Let people use their minds to discern what they think is the truth and never tell them they are right or wrong unless it is blatantly obvious.

Thats some of the stuff I like anyways.

Uh...why was this moved? It definitely belonged in the lore forum. Not the best move mods. Just saying.

I'm partial to the original vision of Daggerfall, prosttute's guild and all.

I guess I should create an complex backhistory in my notes, but decide which bits to make public?

And it's going to return to it, if I have it my way.

Me and my partners don't believe in "let's conquer the world" motivations. You can be assured that we are going to have credible characters. As a bunch of psychologists, we already learned too much about the human mind to simplify it so much.

Can you tell me more about the "original vision"? A guild for prosttutes would make sense in some parts of the world.

Sure: Daggerfall + prosttutes. lol There were also plans for werewolf guilds I believe. But yeah... I'm pretty sure the prosttutes guild would have been joinable with quests and whatnot. I can't really tell you anything else without pure speculation. They just cut some of the content from Daggerfall in the end... which, sin as it is, pales in comparison to their decision to go polygons with the 3rd installment. Sprite world drawn to scale is where it's at.

I'd say mystery is not so much about withholding information. It's more about paradoxes, counter-interpretations, and the inexplicable.

The more ambiguous something is, the more the community around it is motivated to discuss it.

Reach for the esoteric and the abstract. Use real world sources of inspiration, but never anything too familiar. Search through the ideas and myths of groups and peoples that Western minds commonly neglect, and use the concepts that appeal to you on a personal level. Basically, challenge the participant to think about something they don't encounter in the 9-to-5 routine.

It got moved, not locked.

But... use real world history, draw off of real life cultures and mythologies... and stay the HELL away from Tolkien.

You don't need sprites to draw a game to scale.
