Your opinion on starting new games for new DLC

Post » Wed Jan 16, 2013 1:26 pm

So what do you guys thing about starting a new save file for new dlc comes out. I kinda of want to because my current character makes everything feel a bit easy with his double enchanted, max smithed Daedric Armor and Weapons and maxed level destruction spells. Not to mention all the cool new looking armors don't seem to stack up to the Daedric...or do they? I'm not that far in it yet.

I wouldn't, I made my character in preperation for Dawnguard, but thats another story :stare: . My character is more than enough to go through Dragonborn. I'm looking forward to meeting the Ebony Warrior.

I honestly find it hard to continue to play a character that is over level 30. So I make a new character every other week or so.

Don't try Dragonborn at less than level ~30. It tickles if you do.

Do what I do when a dlc comes out. I kept my ragged clothes from the start of the game. So when Solstheim comes out for pc I will put everything I own in my house and just wear my ragged clothes.

If it's for a new selection of mods or new DLC or something, I'd always start a new character. Skyrim isn't exactly healthy when it comes to mod additions and removals in ongoing games, so I bet the DLC would be no exception to that rule. It's just safer in the long run to install what you want, DLC and mods both, and keep it that way for the entire run with the character.

'course, I doubt that matters for the console version.

It's the magic. Magic is overpowered in Skyrin, and it kinda was in Oblivion too. If you're a decked out caster, you can wreck enemies before they even perceive you, enrage them and cause them to fight eachother, and then heal yourself when things get choppy.

I play primarily a thief/rogue character, and the game is much more challenging. I've been one-shotted a few times, but I enjoy the challenge. I use some spells, but mostly just potions.

My brother says Skyrim is too easy and after watching him play, I can see why.... casters just wreck everything in their path.

And... what does any of that have to do with the topic at hand?

When someone asked what lvl is the best to start Dragonborn. Someone in Bethsda answered ''The highest the lvl the better.'' And i read somewhere else that Dragonborn was geared towards high lvl characters. As for Dawnguard was more low lvl characters.

I'll create a new character when I finally get Dragonborn. I never pick up an old character when coming back to the game after not playing it for more than a month or so ... the story I had been telling myself has simply faded too much by then.

Thinking about holding off on Dragonborn altogether until the next DLC (Redguard?) is also available precisely so that I will have pretty much a whole play-through worth of new material for my next character.

I am more likely to create a new character when a new patch comes out, none of the DLC has been really suitable for low level characters, I just send the same three off to do all the DLC, although one seems to have failed to do much with Dawnguard. He was a low level, but has made it to the heady heights of the mid twenties now. He requires extra special handling, so does not get a lot of play time. The fourth character and newest is a level 7 on the PS3, but she has no DLC and it will probably be a while before my PS3 gets any. They bring a GotY edition out for next Christmas that has all the DLC for PS3, I might start a new character. Otherwise the four characters I have are more than enough.

I would recommend starting a new character and hitting Dragonborn at around level 30. I play on expert and find DB to be a good challenge at that sort of level.

I would say it depends on whether or not you've gone to the graybeards on that character. If so, start new. I have only explored solestheim while obvilious to the calling of a dragonborn. I love not having to get involved in the main quest when I arrive. Dialogue is different, or so ive heard. There are some quests that could be okay at lower levels like fetching and helping citizens. But I would also recommend being at a higher level or having some really good potions, poisons, spells, weapons or whatever to ward of imminent death. Your character could be a dark elf or argonian to fit the theme.

And here's another person who plays in novice and thinks that magic is Overpowered, sorry friend,it isn't.

agree. Some mods add new spells which boosts its power, while mods like skyrim redone alters and balances magic with melee and ranged.
But vanilla skyrim, destruction is boring, underpowered and you need a hell lot of magicka to take a draugr overlord down. If you run out of magicka, you are screwed as a pure mage unless you use alteration(oakflesh etc) + melee, but that wouldnt be counted as a pure mage.

I started a new character this weekend specifically for the new DLC. My goal is to complete most of the factions, misc quests, and dawnguard before getting into the new DLC (when ever it comes out in PC)

However, that said I am kind of feeling a new play style so I may switch gears. I'm may just run two games to get that wanting to create a rogue character out of the way.

After lurking here for 14 days or so, I decided to join the Beth-forums.
I've been thinking about buying Skyrim for my 360 in all honesty, if all the DLC releases from now on are going to be like this!
Does anyone who has Skyrim on both the PC and the 360 prefer playing it on the latter? I can imagine the absence of the console to help with immersion to an extent..

Anyway, I generally start a new character every 2-3 weeks, because I can never finish more than for example: 1 guild-questline, the civil war questline, and the Dawnguard q-line, and I can only finish the main-quest on my warrior characters, wearing Blades-armor and such.
I imagine a similar thing happening @ Dragonborn, because of the fact that this DLC seems to lean towards magic, I will treat it as a main-quest for my mage-Dragonborns. Perhaps the next DLC will be suited for rogue characters more than the past two.
But honestly, what I would like most is a DLC that feels right for each of the three combat-orientations. I'm just speculating though, when it comes to Dragonborn, because even though I own a 360, I don't own Skyrim for it, as I said before.

Same here, I've actually never played around with the higher tier armors... somehow I don't like feeling too OP. xD

I have it for both but I'd prefer it for the pc. It's been perfectly fine playing it on Xbox though. As far as playing Dragonborn on Xbox, the experience is just little less for me because of the absence of a few of my favorite mods and I keep going around and finding things that I'll change when I finally get it on pc. Great DLC, I will say.

To the OP, I started with a brand new character because it was a new copy of Skyrim and while you are able to do a few quests here and there, most of it was beyond me. I had to go back to Skyrim and do some things to level up. I came back at level 17 and with a follower and things have been better but I took the difficulty level down some because frankly, I'm a *****. I think this DLC was definitely made with higher level characters in mind.

No, do not encourage Bethesda. This is exaclty what Micro$oft wants.

I'm playing on whatever the normal difficulty is. I never changed it, I just fired the game up on Nov 11 and played.

and yes, magic is overpowered.

I understand that, but even after all the vagueness, Bethesda remains the greatest game-company in existence. At least, thats my opinion. Blizzard and Bioware have both disappointed me way more than Bethesda ever did! Microsoft is indeed money-hungry, but I've gotten every single OS very, very cheaply (legally) over the past few years, because of student discounts etc. Didn't pay more than 15 bucks for Win7 for example.

Magic is overpowered on Normal, but I've long ago switched to Expert, and recently switched to Master. There it is no longer overpowered, the balance is a little off @ Expert/Master imo.
I've found a plethora of mods over the past months to help with that, but I always end up 1. Killing NPC's and almost every mob(Centurions etc) with great ease on my mages but 2. being roasted alive by dragons/deathlords.
