Your top 10 cities

Post » Mon Jun 20, 2011 1:53 am

So I've begun saving what I can in the foolish hope of visiting the 10 cities of the world I most want to see. I was curious as to how popular my top cities are among others. What are your top 10 must-visit destinations?

1. Istanbul, Turkey (An amazing city from what I've seen and heard from my grandma and the seat of 2 of history's greatest empires.)
2. Vienna, Austria (The city from which my family hails as far back as can be recorded, I need to see it for myself.)
3. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (A great American city with an impressive heritage, the city of brotherly love and more importantly the setting of my favorite show.)
4. Jerusalem, Israel (The Holy City for three of the world's major religions and while I myself am not religious I find it fascinating.)
5. Edinburgh, Scotland (I hear there are few better peoples with which to drink than the Scots.)
6. Cardiff, Wales (The other half of my heritage, got a cousin there I've met before.)
7. Berlin, Germany (I just want to go to Germany  )
8. Madrid, Spain (I hear it's nice and Spanish is my only other fluent language so I can at least navigate myself.)
9. Ulan Bator, Mongolia (Mongols! Need I more reason?)
10. Seoul, Korea (My brother-in-law says it's pretty awesome.)

In no particular order:

1. Vancouver, Canada(I'd like to visit Canada, and what I've seen of Vancouver, it looks beautiful.)

2. New York City, New York(It's New York)

3. Kansas City, Missouri(I hear they have good jazz clubs and great BBQ)

6. Liverpool, England(So I can take in a Liverpool FC match live and in person)

7. Los Angeles, California(Just to see what the hype about California is all about)

8. Rome, Italy(Lots of history and a seemingly beautiful city)

9. Miami, Florida(I hear it's a fun place to party)

10. Come to think of it,I really don't have a tenth.

I don't have a top ten, but if I ever got the chance the cities I'd most like to visit are Tokyo and Seoul. Seoul is just stunning to look at and Tokyo is huge. I'd also like to spend more time in New York City than I have in the past, the few times I went when I was younger I didn't get to really see much of it. Id just like to see a real city one day. San Francisco (where I live) is a nice place but it really isn't much of a city, more like a really large town with a small section that can be considered a city. It keeps the tourists happy, but once you live here and get away from the skyscraqers you realize how small the city part of it really is.

My 10 in no particular order:

-Berlin, Germany
-Helsinki, Finland
-London, England
-Tokyo, Japan
-Seoul, South Korea
-Dublin, Ireland
-Moscow, Russia
-Edinburgh, Scotland
-Istanbul, Turkey
-Athens, Greece

A lot of these are kinda cliche, but whatever.

That sounds a lot like Dallas, minus the tourists.

You certainly won't find out just going there.

Some of my top ten are a little off the beaten path or aren't the usual suspects:

1. Dubronik, Croatia.
2. Copenhagen, Denmark
3. Bergen, Norway
4. Belfast, Northern Ireland (if for no other reason that to see where the largest group of my ancestors bolted from)
5. Cape Town, South Africa
6. Samarkand, Uzbekistan
7. Singapore
8. Quebec City, Canada
9. Montevideo, Uruguay
10.Porto, Portugal

I wouldnt mind visiting other European countries, no idea about cities though, I cant imagine cities being nice places, only cities I have been to are Cardiff, and London. I despised both of them.
I wouldnt mind visitng some Italian places though, they would be interesting, but I cant imagine anywhere else being as interesting. Maybe Greece.

I think Japan would be interesting, but only city I know about is Tokyo (yes I svck at geography and remembering places) and it seems like its the insane part of Japan.

Agree with Jeffredo, L.A. provides the stereotype caricature of California. You want to see the real California go to Sacramento, Redding, Chico... places like that. Better yet go to my old hometown, Yuba City, that's about as heinously Californian as a town can get.

What are the chances of this: I'm about to buy a book about the top 200 cities in the world.
Anyway my list:

1. Reykjavik, Iceland.
2. Cape Town, South Africa.
3. Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
4. Prague, Czech Republic.
5. Singapore, Singapore.
6. Praia, Cape Verde.
7. Kabul, Afghanistan.
8. Monaco, Monaco.
9. Nicosia, Cyprus.
10. Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

This probably isn't top 10, but definitely 10 cities I really want to visit.

You spelt Sydney wrong...

I also agree with Baghdad, there are many crazy monuments there from the Hussein period. Maybe one day it will be safe to visit. I also hear Iraq is planning to host the Olympics in the near future, interesting.

:sadvaultboy: Sorry, I edited my post.
The Olympics in Iraq? I'm not sure that would a good idea, many persons would be afraid to go support their country.
