Crap, I forgot about Illia and her overpowered Frost spells. Yeah, she's very good aswell, just make sure not to stand in front of her whilst she's using Ice Storm.

Nope. I use conjure bow if I need one. I honestly dont even pick bows up unless the enchantment is worth learning. Every NPC follower has a default "hidden" bow as for as I know. Erandur even switches to a bow attack once in awhile. It just seems for me Serana seems to use em quite a bit in my game. And yes i do agree with your spoiler lol.

Funny coincidence is that Marcurio killed J'zago today in my game. I was running through the Hall of the Elements in the College and I ran through one of J'zago's spell practices. Marcurio followed me and got hit by J'zargo and then it was on. Both are at the capped level - J'zargo is level 81. It took a pretty long time, but J'zargo died and Marcurio still had almost full health.

The thing with Marcurio is he has great perks. He has Recovery, Regeneration and Respite in the Restoration tree, so if he doesn't run out of Magicka he can live forever. He also has the Magic Resistance, Mage Armor and Augmented shock perks, so even at level 40 (his max) he's much more powerful than J'zargo.

The only mages I've had any luck with are Aranea and Erandur. The others won't wield staves, run out of mana and start punching people and doing other dumb stuff. Serana is also pretty good but honestly her dead summons creep me out.

Yep. He also has a decent AI, compared to some other followers.
Come to think of it, he has mage armor - then I shouldn't put him in armor, then? He would look adorable in steel plate... (He's not following me right now, but I plan for my Dunmer to use him a lot later on, so he will likely follow her well over her level 40.)

Yeah, IMO, any of the followers that can cast Thunderbolt are better than J'zargo, even at a lower level. I would rather have a follower casting high level spells than have 600 health points casting novice level spells.
