$1,000,000,000 PVP Tournament

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 2:14 am

Some theory craft fun...You have the chance to win $1,000,000,000 in a no-potion dueling tournament. You get 75 levels worth of points to spend and infinite gold, you will have all of your skill levels set to 100 (blacksmithing, stealth etc.) .... How would you spend your skill points? How would you spend your attribute points between magika, health stamina? Which gear would you buy/craft? Which enchantments would you use? And most importantly, who would win? Discuss.

A munchkin will win.

Guys who talk about broken stuff and whatnot will be hanging around the lower part of the leaderboard.

Save discussions like this for mmo's. Too many variables to consider in this game.

Please crawl into some hole and die...

it obviously will never happen, which is why I added some stupid amount of money and said theory craft. Wow, i was unaware of the hatred for PvP in skyrim. my apologies ~

who would put a billion dollars up? where will we find a PvP skyrim? how would sneak modifyers play in? if someone frenzy's me, do I lose control of the character and start looking to attack a teammate? how about calm, would it just stun me?

questions and technical improbabilities aside, and throwing aside that balance would be thrown off by making it PvP, probably 2 handed orc, maybe a sneak archer if you could somehow factor sneak

I remember stuff like this floating around when Morrowind was out. PvP never got much love in this community. Different target audience, methinks. That and obviously the mechanics wouldn't work in a PvP environment, so it's difficult to really conceptualize it.

What about the shouts? How many levels do we have? Should we assume they're all max? Are we fighting in an arena, or is this just two people meeting in the wild?

All that said: A sword and board user in heavy armor would win. I'd put everything into health and stamina and nothing into magic. Any magic spell worth using will just get Fus Ro Dah'd before you get it off. A sword and board with elemental resistance would win, IMO, unless you're allowing a sneak multiplier (and I don't see how you would pull that off).

Wow... replies like that aren't needed at all. It just makes you look like a jerk. Move on if you don't want to add anything of worth to the conversation.

I'd personally love some sort of pvp in this game and really hope the Skyrim Online mod works out. I'd go with a bow and just try to keep distance with some kind of enchantment that slows them down.

Assuming things like sneak, calm, frenzy, slow time wouldn't work i would say that an archer who put all his level ups into health. put perk points into archery, a few in restoration, enchanting and blacksmithing, would be the best pvp character. enchants would be to reduce restorations cost by 100% and increase archery damage and health, with lightning and cold enchant on bow.

There are so many things we'd have to know to make a decision and no matter what it'd end being pointless and luck based because there'd be an ideal build and everyone would use it. Does magic resist work vs. non-damaging spells? A dual cast pacify will affect up to level 76 and if you could hit a player with that it'd be game over right there. Smithed weapons would one shot anything with assassin's blade so getting a sneak attack on a calmed player would be game over. Pacify is AoE and ranged, you'd have detect life to completely nullify stealth, so it'd be whoever hits the other with that first in this case.

I think all the hate comes from the awful state of mmo's now. Basically pixel cash cows is all they have become and many people who love TES do not want to see this series go down any road leading to mmo play. IMHO I havent seen anything good come out of mmo's other then the love of the fantasy rpg genre.

The game franchise was built off a niche community and is now getting alot more demographics involved so perhaps the mod will take off better then it did in oblivion. The attempt in oblivion was made (at least to alpha stage) but did not take off due to lack of interest and bugs. If they can implement it successfully with the engine (means alot of variables to consider in PvP scenarios), make it easily accessible ( no crazy file modifying or installing extra programs) and somewhat alluring then this mod in progress may take off. If anything comes of this mod I would expect co op before pvp.

Yeah telling people to go go die doesn't help the rift between mmo players and TES players. Definitely wasn't defending statements like that but hopefully explain the 'hatred' that is quite apparent. My only wish is that people go into TES well aware its a different gaming experience and not an mmo so there can be no comparison made to base your enjoyment on. That, and for everyone to get along

Perhaps my initial comment was a bit too harsh, but I truely am tired of the PvP / multiplayer threads that pops up on a daily basis.
TES is a good series, especially because of the depth a single player game affords (even if most of this depth is gone by now), and I really believe that any sort of multiplayer would be the final nail in the coffin of TES.

Well the good thing about the mod is that it would be optional. I'm personally excited to use it in order to make a small server and play with a few friends. Whether it be questing together or hitting each other with swords. I agree that MMO's are getting worse and worse. I went through a stage where that's all I wanted to play, but lately I can't stand them with all these fees and the way those companies handle themselves. The only part I enjoy is the social aspect of playing a fantasy rpg with my friends. I've tried other games ( Two Worlds II = ( ) and they didn't do much for me.

When I talk about this multiplayer mod though, I'm not talking about making it into an mmo replica. I'm just hoping for the bare basics of being able to get friends into my game to adventure without it breaking down (slow time spells, etc would have to be taken out i'm guessing). I don't want an MMO, nor do I need balance. I just have hope for it because I think it'd be a lot of fun.

I've always found that insult funny, considered that Scandinavians, and thus the Norse (Vikings) drinks much more milk than any other people world wide.
It's actually thought to be the primary reason the Vikings were thrown out of North America: They Vikings would trade with most everyone they met, and with the amounts of milk they'd drink, milk and cheese would be amongst the good they'd trade. Being used to the dairy products, they would be quite fine, but the Native Americans, never tried the stuff before would get violently ill, and subsequently believe the vikings were trying to poison them. :D

I think being able to have a multi-player option to skyrim would be pretty cool. The game is beautifully done and the content is awesome. Having the ability to interact with other 'intelligent' characters would push this game over the top.
