100+ hours and still surprising me

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 9:40 am

I've been playing this game since the night it came out. Went to the midnight launch and fell asleep with the game on after playing for hours into the morning and may or may not have been intentionally a little late for work. I've been playing since release, logged more than 100 hours and I am still learning things about this game.

I literally just found out: you can destroy those wooden spiked barricades you might find in forts and the like, you can shoot fish with arrows, and after leaping from a certain cliff you meet a very unlikely (well, maybe not for TES) fellow who shares your enthusiasm for base jumping, and in fact he rewards you for it.

I've always been an avid explorer, levitating to every nook-and-cranny in Morrowind, scanning the shores in Oblivion and the Shivering Isles, but Skyrim surprises me with this kind of thing even this long after release.

In short;
what oddities have you discovered throughout your time in the land of Skyrim?

If you use Unrelenting Force on someone and they land in a river, they will instantly die when they drift into a rock.

100? Heh, I'm well over 10x that and I'm still finding things.
You can also shoot the hawks out of the sky, by the way.

nothing really comes to mind apart from the base jumping bit and i've done just about everything. i thought the fish jumping up the river and ants around tree stumps were kind of surprising.

You can also use the recently looted Hawk feathers as cheap and weightless cure disease potions.

I was bored down in Blackreach ages ago with my first character, having investigated just about every roof and walked over the sun, I finally took it into my head to see if I could make the sun fall. Well did I get a shock at what turned up. And where had he been hiding all that time?

I'm not far off from 2k.. I was hoping someone had as many hours as me

And as I found out by using the same shout, using it to catapult bandits in a certain cliffy area (and I know of at least two places to do this), they'll die of fall damage. One area it's easy to do so, but the other area isn't that far up so I was somewhat surprised when the guy I shot off the edge didn't come racing back up after me.

I actually didn't know about that until I was on the quest "A Return to Your Roots" and was looking at the UESP page to see if there was any large concentrations of the pesky plants as I was anxious to find out what my reward was for finding the bloody things, and I spoiled that one for myself. Granted I would have never in a million years thought to do that.
I did a double take reading it, thought someone might've been trolling with an edit

Dude you've been playing since the release an have only clocked in not that much more then 100 hours?

I started a new character 2 weeks ago and he's already at 50 hours.

If you've even got an average of an hour a day you should be at least 200 hours.

Of course you probably have a job or somthing...(so you are forgiven)

There is a reason. Follow him and you shall see.

I followed him all the way back home (I think, he stayed there a while) and apart from some walking dead and a bit of loot do not really remember seeing much, is there any way to get his head back? No, please do not tell me how, just if it is possible. I followed that ghost all over the place and in the end just gave up on the mystery.

A few more effects for hopeful sun vandals would have been nice, I only ever found one shout that had any effect on it, but it was an interesting result. It was like the diving experience. In Tomb Raider Lara always comes with a nice diving animation, so I tend to look for interesting diving locations when exploring. Each time I saw one in Skyrim I peeked down and thought no, that looks fatal, even if the view is fantastic. But seriously, they practically put a diving board on that one I eventually jumped off. I saved before risking it, but knew there was water down there so just had to give it a go. I was not disappointed, some thoughtful developer had put something extra in there to find.

Now the sneaky developer who put the potions on top of that high column, his name I want, devious that was. And even knowing they were up there it was not that easy to get all of them, even once I had worked out I had a telekinesis spell. I had fun trying everything else before I got to it though. Blowing them off the mountain, shooting them to bounce down the mountain never to be seen again, trying to actually whirlwind sprint unto the top of the column, it was fun. I have often noticed the little sneaky touches that you only get if you really look! It is one of the reasons I am still playing Skyrim, since I can never be sure I actually noticed everything.

You can also use Unrelenting Force to massacre butterflies, fish, etc. for easy ingredient gathering.

About 200+ hours in I came, for the first time, to Kagrenzel. I was pleasantly surprised :)

I just discovered that guy. It was such a let down when I found out I could not disenchant the hammer. Anyways, jumping down the board at Bard's leap also turned out interesting. Won't spoil it. And I'm 700+ hours in. I'm still finding new stuff. This game is really something.
