4GB Patch NOT out today.

The 4gb update for PC is still in testing. Not likely today.

Sorry if already posted but I'm a little unsure why it's taken them so long, when a modded has already released like 4 versions on nexus? I'm genuinely asking why it's taking them longer, its fairly important, maybe it's for a positive reason?

Any opinions or advice as to why?

Perhaps they're learning the intricacies of the Steam authentication placed on the exe.

After the last 2 patches I'm happy that they're taking the time to do it right and testing it to make sure. (I'll probably be back later to eat my words though...)

Improperly handling it can cause problems on 32bit systems, afaik. They'd want to get this right otherwise they'll just have more people screaming "THE NEW PATCH BROKE MY GAME BETHE$DA" etc etc.

I dunno, but in the meantime you can use Monochrome Wench's 4 GB patch. I have not had a single CTD since using it so far . . .

hope they fix this ant farm pretty soon. strange as pre patch original skyrim was pretty much bug-free and high fps for me. Since the 1.3 patch fps tanked to low 20's/high teens and bugs and glitches errwhere. it's almost as if they went back to the alpha build.

It would be really funny if Steam screwed them over.

"Testing"....

The technical skinny on the 4gb exe patch, is that it is an entry in the .exe file's header, essentially turning on a feature that is handled by the operating system. There is no "testing" that needs to be done. It is either on, or off, that's it.

Now, if they are enabling systems within the executable to take advantage (aggressively) of the additional memory, that's entirely different. But I haven't seen or read anything to this effect on it. Who knows with Bethesda, they will often sneak in changes without mentioning them to a soul.

LIke I said in another thread on this, everyone who is currently using the 4Gb LAA Mod has chosen to do so. There's plenty of people out there that play vanilla and always will. Bethesda has to create a version that can evaluate your system and determine whether or not you can/should run LAA based on that evaluation. And then it has to QA it in all kinds of memory/OS/hardware combinations. Given the 1.2 debacle, I'm surprised they're moving as fast as they are.

Hopefully they are also modifying their code where possible to take advantage of LAA and not just flipping a bit to generically enable it and then hoping it helps.

I've found most gaming companies release vague update descriptions, for whatever reasons, I'm sure you could come up with a few of them. The steam platform updates are the only ones I've ever seen that sometimes go into almost hilarious detail or rage with the use of parentheses as to what exactly they fixed.

- Fixed steam://openurl and steam://openurl_external links opening black pages in the existing window in the in-client browser at times (really!)

- Made the screenshot manager prioritize loading screenshots that are visible rather than just loading them from newest to oldest (so you see what you've just scrolled to if you scroll around while loading)

lol.

Every patch they've introduced so far has made my game more prone to problems, and/or introduced new bugs. So if they're finally deciding to do things the right way by taking a little longer to make sure it's problem free then that's good, and to my way of thinking it's a positive sign, so kudos to them.

Not surprised it didn't come out.

And to all those people that are saying you can tick a checkbox and magically make it use more ram is way off..
A lot of work on the backend needs to be made so that it works properly.
Recomplied and all.
Steam encryption optional, etc etc.

Plus you know.. those peeps on 32-bit and all.
I'm guessing sometime next wednesday it will be ready.

Did they release some kind of patch yesterday? Because my game suddenly went erratic and I can't figure out the cause. I assumed that it was the 4GB patch.

I'm holding at 1.1 until this comes out.

Since my game is functional as it is, I am not losing any sleep over waiting for the patch, however. :)

The LAA flag by itself has zero impact on a 32 bit system. The OS will simply ignore it. If all they were going to do was flip the flag prior to distribution, that's a 5 minute fix. Perhaps instead they're going into their build setup and making sure that the result comes out the other end with that flag already in place. So they don't have to worry about someone undoing the work when patch 1.5 comes along.

More likely than not, the patch is going to have more than just the LAA flag on it. I mean, we can hope they fix the calendar bug or something along with it, right?
