I abandoned my Dunmer in favor of a brand new Nord

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 1:31 am

Throughout TES, my characters have always been Dunmer. My original main got to level 41, and then... I just dropped him and restarted with a brand new Nord.

Oddly enough, playing a Nord feels a lot more fitting. At that, I've NEVER had a Nord character before, and never had much of a regard for the race in general (especially since the days of the Naked Nords and their nemeses the witches). However, it just feels right for the Dovahkiin to be a Nord, especially since Thu'um has always been a Nordic gift.

Weird. Has anyone else restarted with a Nord just because it fit better?

I initially played an Imperial, but shelved him after 58 levels and started a Nord. After completing the Stormcloak questline I was so dissatisfied with him that i started an Altmer warrior. First time playing an Elf in any game and he's absolutely my favorite character. I'm able to RP him as kind of a High Elf rebel who heads for Skyrim to distance himself from the magic using Thalmor Altmer. Has a very Nord approach to life, but supports the Empire.

No. I'd never replace my Argonian with a Nord no matter the context.

Same here, Dunmer only. I did what you did for the same reasons and had a similar experience. :obliviongate:

Oh man, when I replayed Morrowind with the better bodies mod... Let's just say the cold air of northern Vvardenfell apparently does not result in shrinkage.

My character is a Nord, because I thought that it fit better with the setting.

In Oblivion, my main was an Imperial battlemage type for similar reasons. I only played Morrowind briefly, but if I stuck with it, I'm sure I would have settled with a Dunmer.

I guess I just like the guard comments and being the same race as the majority of the npcs who are giving the quests.

i've made and re-made about 5 nords in skyrim.

i haven't played 5 nords combined in morrowind and oblivion combined.

playing a nord is great. the roleplay is pure fun.

Well i don't have my dunmer on console anymore, I couldn't stand the bags under the eyes and the vulcan brow. so my dunmer playthrough sits on my PC. I have 2 nords though, i love playing nords, being a viking is so badass :D

If that little song, "The Dragonborn comes" has any canoical value to it at all as far as the lore goes, then the Thu'um is an ancient nord art.

Yes but that doesn't mean that no one else could use it, and with the Dragonborns power coming from his soul it wouldn't matter much even if only humans to learn it.

Don't be that way. It was three Nord heroes who banished Alduin the first time.

I do think "Nord comes home and saves Skyrim" makes for the best story. My Nord Stormcloak will be my "quintessential" dovahkiin.

Just wait, even this Nord won't be good enough, and you'll play multiple variations of Nords.

I think I'll go really "standard" now, and just make a light armored/2h barbarian type. Funnily enough, I've never done that.

The Thu'um is a Nordic Gift/Ability. Any Nord can use the Thu'um. The Dragonblood is a gift from Akatosh. Having the blood and soul of a Dragon gives you the ability to shout as Dragons do. Ever wonder why Dovahkiin's shouts are louder than let's say Draugr? Because he is Dragonborn so his Thu'um is much more powerful.

I restarted my Breton mage in favour of a Nord mage. I restarted because: 1. The Breton was not levelled very well, 2. The Nord presets look better than the Breton ones, and 3. I like playing against the normal character types for races. In addition to the Nord Mage, I also have an Imperial Thief and a Breton Warrior as "opposite" characters.

Respectively, I've always loved playing Nords and Redguards. It's just something about them. They seem alot more Warrioresque than Imperials and Bretons. And with Skyrim's amazing soundtrack, playing a Nord makes me feel more badass than ever!!!

In my opinion the best races are for each type of character are:

Warrior: Nord/Redguard/Orc

Mage: Altmer and Breton if you don't want to be an Elf.

BattleMage: Redguard/Imperial

Nightblade: Dunmer

Assassin/Thief: Khajiit/Argonian.

In Skyrim, the only race I dislike are the Wood Elves.

The only races I've ever used are Nord and Bosmer. I've been wanting to do an Argonian though; they just look so cool in Skyrim. Not to mention there's just something that feels right about a lizard being dragonborn.

I think there's something "right" about putting that dragon claw looking war paint on any character, and being dragonborn.

Oh wait, you can't do that on some of the non humanoids.

By that logic, how can an imperial learn to make elven armor? Its an elven art afterall.

If that doesn't satisfy you, keep in mind the Draugr are undead regular Nords and only seem to know Unrelenting Force and Disarm, two of the simplest shouts.

According to the Graybeards, it takes a LOT of time and effort to learn even simple shouts The Graybeards only teach you Unrelenting Force, Whirlwind Sprint, and Clear Skies, afterall. As dovakiin, you have the ability to learn shouts naturally as though they were any other word. This is why you get access to more shouts. You can learn the words effortlessly, and you can gain knowledge of the words through dragon souls.
