About Dark Brotherhood

If I join the Imperials can I still do quest with the Dark Brotherhood? I know one of their quest involves killing the emperor. I sided with the imperials and done it at my last play through and I did not see the emperor at all.

I killed the Emperor for the DB... and still plan on joining the Empire when I decide to make my choice. I don't follow a strict RP style with this character, but I can see him finding no harm with the need for order in the realm... if for no other reason than it provides a challenge for someone with moral flexibility.

Why I asked I thought going on the imperial I will be seeing the emperor at the end of those quest. I did not on my last play through and never will. So for I for my next character whom I playing now if I do the Dark Brother I be joining the Stormcloaks. Looks like I thought wrong. There is a post some months ago I be siding the Stormcloaks if I join the Dark Brotherhood because I have to kill the emperor. Flexibility yes.

Hey I am dragon born and I will kill with you my voice. Dragon born always lead (I think). I should be emperor. You don't have dragon blood. If my character lived 200 years before, could she were that Amulet of Kings?

The opposing faction in the DB story arc is the Penitus Oculatus; they're a completely different faction than the Legion and operate separately, so siding with or "offending" one doesn't affect your standing with the other at all. I killed the Emperor (and wiped out most of the PO) and 24 hours later took an oath of loyalty to him and his Empire when Tullius inducted me into the Legion. It was hard to keep a straight face but I managed.

I was even attacked by two surviving PO dudes on my way up to Castle Dour to speak to the general. I killed them and neither the Legion soldiers nearby nor the Solitude guards even blinked. Later on that day I stopped by the PO HQ in Dragonbridge and took out what I can only assume was their last remaining representative.

Good times, good times.

Off topic I know but; has anyone joined the Companions wearing Saviour's hide? I imagine they won't take kindly to someone turning up wearing a dead werewolf as armor :whistling: !!

Don't know, but most NPCs don't seem to react in any meaningful way to stuff like that, there may be comments based on what you're wearing but no random hostile actions. I mean at the beginning of the game it's entirely possible to come strolling into Riverwood in full Stormcloak gear and it doesn't prevent you from interacting in the necessary ways with even the most diehard local Imperial supporters. I think I may have even gone all the way to Whiterun in SC gear and I look back and wonder why some obnoxious Battle-Born didn't try to beat the snot out of me before I even got to the palace.

The one thing for me with the Companions is that by the time I end up joining them (if I do) I've usually got some enchanted weapon that I'm using as my primary attack, usually it's whatever the Jarl gave me when I became Thane. And if I pull it out when Vilkas is testing my skill he seems very unhappy about it. Once I didn't have anything else to use and I reloaded an earlier save and went and bought an unenchanted sword because I didn't know if using the magic one would bork things up and make him refuse to finish the part of the process or even become hostile and attack me.

On my assassin I was doing the Imperial side of the civil war right alongside the Dark Brotherhood quests, so that it culminated with me winning the war for them, them killing my Dark Brothers and Sisters, and then me killing their emperor (while dressed in Stormcloak Officer armor no less) as payback.

Felt very righteous.

@Lyn1964. Sorry for the late reply. So the guards that protect the emperor is separate from the legion like the praetorians protecting emperor during the Roman empire. I did not thought of that. So the guards who protect the emperor replaced the blades because of the Thalmor. Now I know.

Not only joined them, but I then dressed Aela in the Saviour's Hide!
She looks smokin' too...
Even finer than her default outfit (which already, um, compliments her figure).

I did and they never took notice. A shame. Savior's Hide is my favorite armor, especially for females. And that 15% magic resistance bonus is just like the icing on the cake.

I hear you, there. (Here goes my Michael Westen voiceover) - As an operative, sometimes you're required to dress the part of your cover story if you're going to be convincing. Sometimes, this makes you look foolish, but it gets you closer to your target.

(Next time, I'm going to fight AGAINST the DB, just to see what that's like.)

Was it required to wear the Chef's Tunic and Chef's Hat? I just put it on to be funny so I got in on my 1st try - they turn you away if you're not wearing it?

I think the Writ of Passage will get you past the Penitus Oculatus regardless, but I could've sworn I read somewhere that you needed to be wearing chef's clothes to interact properly with the castle cook who actually makes the dish. I would've worn them anyway because: lulz. And also because I find it ridiculous that I can waltz around sometimes in clothes/armor that should ID me instantly as The Enemy of certain people, and no one who should care really does... they might comment on it but it never really impedes my progress much.

So if I have to go undercover, I make myself dress appropriately, for instance, I didn't wear my Stormcloak armor when trying to infiltrate Understone keep and sneak around the steward's chamber in order to blackmail him over his Talos worship. No, I did it in a full suit of finely crafted (by me) Imperial heavy armor, complete with an officer's helmet.

Let the old fool think he was blackmailed by an officer of the very Legion his Jarl is supporting, that just adds to the fun. :)

Yeah, on my assassin chick I would dress her up - especially for assassinations - to blend in better and then put her work clothes on out of view, do the deed, change back and flee or walk away.

Yes and I just realized that Markarth was not the only undercover job I'll have to do for the Stormcloaks, and dammit I gave all that shiny Imperial armor to a prisoner I freed from a bunch of wandering Thalmor. Now I'll have to make more.

I guess I could loot the gear off the guy I'll have to kill but it'll be light armor. Bah humbug.

Do you know how to replicate it on a mannequin?

I only had one mannequin that ever did that, and it was only the helmet that got replicated. Nice that it was ebony, because I made a lot of money improving and selling off clones of the original. :P

Already gave it away anyhow, so I don't even have it to replicate it. But I'd rather just make some more to increase my smithing skill. And I should have a good bit of loot to sell off once I get back to Windhelm and plenty of money to buy what I need if I don't have it by then. Even after plunking down all that gold for Hjerim. Man, I am so used to buying Breezehome at the earliest opportunity, I really got spoiled. I wanted this character to make Windhelm her primary residence so I've been waiting to get the house there and I forgot what a PITA it is not to have a house where you can store and display everything and know it's safe.

The ones in Honeyside act weird for me so I use the ones in Markarth or Solitude. Yeah, it won't help you now, but when you get another set you can replicate it because we can't make the Imperial heavy body piece or Officer's Helmet, right?

You know about the house buying exploit, right? :P

Don't know about the officer's helmet because to be honest I think I looted one of those and saved it. But I bet I can make it because I can make all the rest of the heavy Imperial stuff.

Modding: don't leave Helgen without it.
