After a certain amount of time they get bored and return to their 'home' point (with dogs its usually where you first found them) Three days i think?

you can pick him up again, go back to the place you found him last time, he should be there in three-ish days.

Because you see... The last time I did that I had to buy him back, but whatever, theres always Meeko.

If Banning dies, you cannot get vigilance again. If you have him with you, best keep him with you, because if he returns 'home' you won't be able to get him again. Least I couldn't.

It would be more appropriate for them not to be referred to as 'my dog'. It's not 'my dog' if it goes to live somewhere else.

Comparing the dogs in Skyrim to Dogmeat from F3, I much preferred the Dogmet AI behaviour, not to mention the ability for him to stay at my actual home address...I was a committed Dogmeat user in F3, but after a couple of quests/wanderings using the Skyrim dogs, I gave up on them.
