ACE or SkyRE?

Post » Tue Jul 03, 2012 4:59 am

I am NOT trying to start a religious war over which mod is the better one.

I currently am using SkyRE, but have been looking at ACE and trying to decide which I would like better. From what I've read ACE does not modify NPCs, correct? If I wanted AI changes I should use ASIS and turn on the AI flag? I currently do use ASIS, but without the AI flag.

Has anyone played with both? Comments and thoughts? Does ACE play nice with the Community Uncapper, or does the BYOG plugin override it? I have looked around for more info and if I've over looked the answers to those question please let me know where I can find them.

Again, this is not to start a war over this. Just curious

Thanks

I am using ACE and ASIS (complete with AI), but not the BYOG module - as I am also using Community Uncapper and see no reason for BYOG. So far so good, but I just keep starting new games without getting anywhere, so you probably can't take my word on it.

I know people here on the forums aren't a big fan of SkyRe, but I'm a big fan of SkyRe. It's balanced and generally very well done.

I've not tried SkyRE but I can atest to ACE's usefullness after a days play.

A few questions:

Why are BYOG and the Community Uncapper mutually exclusive?

Has Elys mod turned into a much bigger thing in my absence (last played Dec 2011)? If memory serves, all it used to do is remove the 100 skill limit on your skills?

BYOG on the other hand lets you alter multiple things...?

Part of the reason I ask is that I'm using both BYOG's exp gain rate reduction and the Community Uncapper. Will this cause problems?

The scope of the two mods is vastly different. ACE is a skill rebalancer that mainly enhances perks. Besides ASIS, ACE is also designed to work well with combat and magic overhauls such as Duel and Empowered Magic. SkyRe on the other hand is a much more general overhaul that includes a perk module among many other things. Ultimately, you only have to decide if you like ACE's perks better or not. (And notice also that ACE's perks do not cover all skills; magic schools are not touched by ACE and you need to get empowered magic to overhaul them).

Good info guys, thanks.

Like I said, I currently use SkyRE and like it, but I do like the modular approach that ACE takes and being able to implement other stuff like Empowered Magic or Art of Shadows, etc, is a big plus.

As for Community Uncapper you can slow the rates at which you gain skills and how many skills are needed for a level. That's my interpretation though, so I would assume that if you didn't let BYOG modify the exp points they would work together.

Good point on which perks I like better. I spend way too much time modding my game instead of playing it sometimes. :P
