Add mods to Steam Version?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:27 pm

I'm not sure where else to post this so if it's in the wrong place, forgive me.

I'm not new to modding Gamebryo (having made some minor mods for myself for Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3), but i am new to Steam (Fallout New Vegas being my only Steam game sans Half Life 2 when Steam first came out). I simply don't understand where everything is stored, nor how Steam starts up the games. This also leads to how I install mods via a mod manager (If I'm forced to use the launcher, I'll never buy another Steam based game again) or use a save game manager or even NVSE when it comes out with a steam version.

I'm not asking for someone to atually explain all of this to me, but if there is a link someone can provide that explains HOW Gamebryo based mods work with Steam based games, I would greatly appreciate a gentle push in the right direction. I've done some mnior searching and even gone to the Nexus for some quick searches but have found nothing that specificly states HOW to deal with mods and a Steam based game.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can provide some assistance.

Assuming that you're using XP, you wanna look in C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\fallout new vegas\Data.

If not XP, it's going to be in a folder very similar to that. You just slap the plugins in there, same as always. Unfortunately, you're going to have to use the launcher for now until Valve provides support for things like NVSE and NVMM. Trust me, we're all wishing they were working too. But so far, there aren't that many problems concerning load order and the like yet. Hope this helps. My copy of FO3 was bought on Steam, and eventually FOMM was working just fine for it.

Even in Vista/7 it would be the same file path; it's only different if you're on a 64-bit OS, in which case it would be "Program Files x86."

Oh, and Valve has already provided support for NVSE. So, that's taken care of. I can only assume NVMM will go through the same motions.

Edit: I could very well be wrong about what I said, but I remember reading that Steam interferes with that process somehow.
