add players name to book

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:22 am

Is a quest or script essential to place the players name in a book or letter? As far as I've seen some of the CK letters don't have scripts attached to the note yet mention the players name. I tried adding to the book but the text just reads up till that point then disappears. Any help would be appreciated I'm sure the solution is super simple! Thanks in advance!

Surely you can just add the players name without attaching any scripts or quests? If the player does pick up the book or note I just want their name mentioned..

Capitalization might be important (ie ). I know that you're not allowed to use spaces.

Here is the example of WE36PlayerBountyLetter book:

BountyBy order of :To all able bodied men and women. The is wanted dead oralive for heinous deeds and assorted crimes against the good people of .A generous reward will be offered anyone who kills .--

I'm not sure why it's not working, seeing you have exactly as it should.

Can't imagine why it doesn't work. Surely you don't have to attach a script or quest to it??

The WE36 Quest has alias's set up for everything listed in the book that moopus posted above. Including the book itself.

So does this mean I need a quest to use the line in letters and books? I really don't want to since for the particular letter I'm writing there is no quest, all I want is to attach the players name to it..

I haven't found a way to do it but that isn't saying it can't be done. I did find the following in one of the vanilla books and thought it was funny:

, believed to go by (may be an alias).

Yep, unfortunately. If you just add your book to Player's inventory with a script, all fields or Global Variables displayed will be blank. You must create a Quest, which will be running, and the book as an Alias of this Quest.

Cool thanks! Damn, shame it needs that, its alot of work and I dont need a quest for the letter and I really don't feel like creating a quest just to state the players name haha. Lucky I'm good at finding general ways of specifically addressing the player in broad terms without defining a specific gender!! =D

No, clearly not. Seriously it takes less than one minute, and it worths it. You don't even need to create a script, unless you want to display values.
