ADD RELIGION ASPECT IN NEXT FALLOUT

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 2:07 pm

I was watching book of Eli and I thought it would be so cool to have this in the next Fallout, or maybe even DLC...to add a religion aspect to Fallout. Me being a Christian would love to find bibles in the game and then give them to a clan that would spread the word, but I also know there would be opposition so of course there would be an evil lookin to destroy the Bibles....Whadaya think people??? lets get a nice huge following on this poll

Nope. I don't want watchdog groups aiming to get New Vegas banned as immoral and offensive to children. Thanks.

No. Absolutely not.
Introducing a religious element would be the surest way to start wild and vehement arguments.

All those are dismissable in the eyes of many. You start adding intention to opress religion? Fox News will have a field day.

This. It's not like such groups don't get bent about such games anyway, without effectively poking them with a stick.

Thats ridiculous they already tried with games such as Grand theft auto and ANY game with murder in it... So you would rather endorse murder than an innocent feature in the game which is voluntary??? Doesnt make sense, all said was think BOOK of ELI

A game that simulates pixel murder is a whole other ball park than a game that introduces the philisophic concepts of oppression or remote indication of religious prejudice.

And actually you are exactly right, how about just a good group looking to find Bibles to spread forget the Evil aspect??

Then you'd likely have Pro-Athiesm/religious neutrality watchdog groups claiming the developers forcing Christian beliefs down others throats. Religion is best left to the individual, or kept as a detail in a game, putting to much emphasis on religion is only asking for trouble.

Not really, because in a way they already indirectly are including it in the game with how the Legion is.. They mock Roman society and Roman rulers considered themselves Gods, so am I being oppressive if I set out to be Good in this game by wiping out all the Legions who are bad???

Yeah Martyr, you'd rather endorse murder?

Fox News indeed...

thank you i agree

You do? Because the line you're saying you agree with is me agreeing with Colonel Martyr that this whole Bible feature shouldn't be added, because it would effectively be poking certain groups like those oft appearing on Fox News with a stick inciting them to raise unholy hell about "another devil-worshipping video game" etc. etc. etc.

Adding an overt christian theme, even as a side quest, will cause people to have a field day. Weather or not it's intentional, you'll have people saying that Fallout has simply become a vehicle for Christianity, and is trying to push Christianity onto others. Of course, that's going to hurt sales, would have fans from all eras of Fallout angered because of this viewpoint, and, worst-case scenario, cause Fallout to die again.

Exactly.
Not just Christianity. ANY religion emphasized in the way the OP is talking would create the same result. As would any overt persecution of a religion.

It's just not a good idea.

Fox News indeed... You've entered a no-spin zone!

I dont care about Fox, but there are countless people who treat every word they say as carved in stone truth from the mouths of truth and justice.

@Pat- Now you're just making off the wall logic. Caesars Legion does not emulate the Roman Dinasty, only parts of it, the rest they do what suits their needs. However if a game started using alot of heavy dialogue bashing, thats likely to invoke alot of public outrage. It's one of those obnoxious hot button topics.

Yeah so which ever way it went you would have some power hungry person that would be tryin to stick nose in a controversy just get his 15 mins, and then what the game still gets released and the same OPTIONAL missions would never be played you can still pick and choose what you wanna do the game its not like im askin for a MANDATORY mission to progress in the game, in the last 2 Fallouts their has been SIMILES, if you will, relating to religion, so I dont really understand where your goin with that,

Actually you understand more than you realize. Do you know why there were parodies of religion in Fallout games? Yep- because they're much safer than the potential firestorm that can result from references to real religions.

well if any CHRISTIAN watchdog looked at this game, which i doubt there is, they could already see some Satanic references in the last 2 games which they can easily say is spreading Satanism but do you hear anyone crying foul there, oh i guess speak volumes of whats REALLY accepted in society.....

-Sigh- But you're missing my point. If someone finds some little quest in some VERY remote region of F:NV that had to do with....killing a Muslim or a Christian preacher, or spreading the word of God, it WILL cause some sort of anger. It's best left OUT of the game entirely. Going one way or another will cause a 'rabble rabble rabble' crowd. If you just stay neutral and leave it alone, there will be no controversy.

well thats where we can agree, some sort RELATION to spreading a sort of "BIBLE" like how they were looking for un ruined Pre-war books in Fallout 3 at the Library Archives, same concept but with a religious aspect,
