Adding seasons in skyrim would create so much more immersion

Post » Mon Nov 05, 2012 8:50 pm

I know it was a proposed feature in the skyrim gamejam (1:47 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PedZazWQ48 )

seeing snowy areas become more spring like, and vice versa. It's a small thing, but creating a sense of "season" in skyrim would really push it father into the immersion category.

I know Todd said that they will continue to add updates to skyrim for years, and years. Hopefully if this isn't part of any future dlc, that it comes into fruition with updates.

Well, I do believe that one of the mods shown on the game jam vid was of seasons (Along with Vamp Lords, vamp and werewolf perk trees, spears and mounted combat)

The one issue I can possibly see is hardware restrictions. Depending on how it's done it could -like the high res DLC- require a pretty hefty PC to get satisfactory results, restricting it away from lower end pcs and the consoles.

Could be a few ways it's done I guess.

A gradual change would be the most immersive. Possbily the most hardware intensive too, mostly due to increased texture usage and variations. Could also be timescale issues, too abrupt or too gradual to the point where you have to play for dozens of game days for noticable changes.

It's also one that would likely only work for the PC properly. :ermm:

The years take way to long to make seasons follow years. I'd prefer if they implemented something like it but based on the weather instead of seasons.

^RP-ing can be turned into an endless experience so the idea of time becomes irrelevant. Also, completing all of the quests in Skyrim takes about a year (in-game time obviously) and I think seasons would add a little flavour to the experience (not to mention new quests and possibly a holiday mechanic).

Sounds like a good idea. I was wondering the other day about yearly events and holidays. The only "event" I can think of is the burning of king Olaf. I would also like to see events like christmas, halloween, etc., so when you walk into Solitude you see people getting ready for a party. There are also seasonal events in Wow and I think it's one of the great things to keep a game fresh and interesting.

I dunno what the say about it, it gets me mixed feelings.
At a first glance its a nice idea and how someone said "it would add flavour" to the gaming experience.
The downside is that the whole landmass will have to change and that requires serios gaming power, which only the PC can bring.
All in all
