Advantages of finishing vanilla main quest?

Well, the topic says it all. it its said that the Dragonbron DLC quest will differ depending on the player having beaten vanilla' s main quest or not. Whats the difference / benefit?

When you first meet Miraak he mentions Alduin and brags how he could've beaten him.
