Advice on which perks I should have? Which are useless?

Post » Fri Feb 01, 2013 6:20 am

Alright I know I seem lazy and cheap coming here and asking, but my build is heavy armor, one handed weapons, and blocking. I'll probably branch into a few other things after I've leveled the three of those, but I've heard around the forums there are some perks that are useless or you do not need. Can anyone fill me in on perks I could skip out on in those three perk trees?

Don't bother with the weapon specialisation perks in one-handed.

Lockpicking is useless because the lockpicks are so common you will never run out except in the very beginning of the game.
Pickpocketing is also useless unless you really want to take people's clothes off. The reason for this is that once you get into the mid game, you will be better equiped than any other npc in the game, so the only think you can pickpocket is a couple of septims, which aren't that hard to steal.

You'll want to max out the heavy armor-perk tree. The cushioned and Fists of Steel perks are ridiculous and a complete
waste of your skill points, but the conditioning perk is worth the 3 skill points. I also find the bash-perks in the Block perk-tree
to be a waste, along with weapon specialisations in the one-handed perk tree.

Yes, fist of steel perks are worthless because the only time you will be using hand to hand is during brawls, which are ridiculously easy. Also, the power attack perks in two and one handed. The reason is, you will mostly be using your standard power attacks, I mean, you almost never use sideways or backwards power attacks.

Bash perks are useful for pistol-whipping archers.

Heavy armor, one handed, and blocking? You should also check the Smithing skill out. A good way to improve your weapons and armor.

Not really, it's fairly overpowered

From my experience, putting points in the one handed weapons tree has not been useless, well not for me. As in the one you level up 5 times and after the fifth perk they do twice as much damage. i always thought that was essential, as well as fully upgrading the heavy armor rating all 5 times. :/ Because I'm that guy who yells, 'STAGE DIVE!" and leaps head first into a crowd of enemies. :P

Does the Heavy Armor perk that says heavy armor is weightless and doesn't slow you down, literally mean it doesn't affect your carrying capacity, or did I read that wrong?

Never said he should smith it all the way to Legendary or over that limit.

It does not effect your carry weight while wearing it, nor does it slow you down.

Hmmm. That's cool. :) I definitely will do smithing as well to make Hearthfire go smoother.

I think the mace perks are the most useful.
