Afraid it will all end

Hi everyone! Noob here.
So I think I'm getting close to the end but I'm not sure.
I just finished the Embassy thing and saving the old man and Im supposed to meet him and or Delphine at that 'Wall'.
I have a feeling that the main storyline is about stopping the dragons. Am I right?
Am I getting close to the end, and if I am and I complete the main story can I still continue the character like in Fallout 3 and do all the other missions? Will it eliminate the dragons in Skyrim?
If you can assist without spoiling that would be awesome!
Thanks everybody!

Dragons continue to spawn and you can continue your character after the main quest.

OP, the great thing about the Elder Scrolls, is that even once you finish the Main Quest, the games' credits don't roll. You get to keep playing. I started playing with Morrowind, but it has been this way even since then, and I can only presume that it was this way in the games before it.

Life goes on. You're character doesn't die in the confrontation with Alduin, and he/she still has a life to live, and many great deeds to add to his/her Legend. Go where you want, do what you want, be who you want to be, all of this says that the game doesn't end once the MQ is done. With all the hundreds of hours of Side Quests and Miscellaneous Quests to explore, and a world with untold, countless wonders yet to see, I'm not sure that Skyrim will ever quite be "done".

Thanks, that's a relief!
