Post » Mon May 28, 2012 2:01 am

after so many hours in game it just started crashing to desktop no errors(. can't go inside Understone Keep, can't go from Jorrvaskr(stuck inside with different save file ) crashes near Riften too. this happened after I'm started to do some missions for thieves guild . now i have mission after mission- speaking with silence - and i need to go in Markarth Understone Keep and can't go inside (tried some tweaks with sound options, registry cleaner still getting this problem . it's something related with the save file . I have tried to load maybe 80hours earlier save and no crashing at all in same places. i don't know what to say.. do i need to start over or wait a few years for 8 patches and then start over ... !? so many hours was completely wasted !!!!!!!

you could try manually moving old save files to another folder and see if that helps

PS3 users have a major bug that is similar the longer they play the worse the game gets until it finally crashes and is unplayable, due to so many save files somehow borking the entire mess.

you could probably manually navigate to the save folder and try moving your old saves to a back up folder temporarily and see if that helps by reducing the clutter from all the save files

I know on PS3 people have been having to manually delete saves to clear things up for them and since this is a console port same could be happening for pc

I'd say a few more exclamation marks at the end there and someone would've been more apt to tell you how to fix this.

Oh well.

ah ok, that's the only idea I had for the moment. I know there are several videos on youtube showing the PS3 Savegames bug, the savegames get so many of them and it chokes the ps3 to death leading to eventually the game not even loading until you clear them out.

I was thinking it could be a similar problem with pc and perhaps cleaning out some old save games could help speed things back up.

Did you make any system changes recently? Or in-game changes like mods?

Edit: Just understood what you said about the sound. This might not be what you're talking about, but then again it might help. Why it starts, nobody knows, but if it works for you, then awesome. http://crashfixes.com/fixing-skyrim-crashes-freezes-errors-steam-crash-no-sound-lags-choppy-framerates/

Scroll down to where it says something about crashes, sound files, and all that. For some reason some people experience crashes related to their sound files, and there's a fix there. It might help you out.

Edit 2: "Fixing Skyrim Crashes, Freezes, Errors, Steam crash, No Sound, Lags, Choppy framerates" is the heading I'm talking about, under that those fixed might help you out some.

The issues that PS3 users have is mostly from the save game bloat. It is not after a certain # of saves but rather after the save games reach a certain size (individually). I have tested myself (own PS3 and PC version). 2 saved games, after the save game hit 6 megs or so the 'lag' got progressively worse until it was unplayable around 10-11 megs.

Have you tried the 4GB launcher? That might fix it: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013

I've only played for about 77 hours, myself, but I haven't crashed since I started using a LAA/4GB TESV, either directly modified (prior to the patch that disabled direct modification of TESV.exe) or via Monochrome Wench's program that I linked to above (after that patch).

(Prior to that, I crashed once or twice per day. I didn't even bother playing immediately after the patch which blocked direct modification until there was a working launcher, since I didn't want to go back to crashing, especially since other folks were reporting that their crash frequency had increased.)

Your link does not working for me if you could copy-paste here then I'll be grateful , if you mean fixing sound :
Click Start | Control Panel.
Click Hardware and Sound| Sound.
Under Playback tab, select your speaker, and click Properties button.
Click Advanced tab.
Select this option: 24 bit, 48000 Hz or 24 bit, 44100 Hz (Studio Quality), and then click OK

this didn't helped me .
yes i had few mods ,maybe three and everything worked fine. and then from nowhere game started crash in the specific places(non of those three mods were deleted they were all the time,i think mods are not the reason ) . i found in other forums that i am not the only one who having these crashes in specific places like Markarth . it can't be mods . i had heavy modded oblivion and fallout but never had problem like now with skyrim. i had no system changes just played like a maniac and then first time i notice near riften, jumped over that place with fast traveling and then same problem started in another cities .

I've tried i think three different 4gb enablers ,didn't worked .. i lost my hope to solve this problem . it's something with my save files not ram usage . because i can walk in the city where are many people and big PC usage but going to specific places makes my game to crash on exit like companions house where are few people . i guess to much information for my save file and he messed up whole game :)

If even that 4gb launcher doesn't fix it (the others more or less weren't quite working for everyone), then Bethesda may have a major problem if the problem is a common one related to play time, as soon as more people start hitting that much time (at which point it would become apparent that they have an issue).

I had the same problem after about 150 hours. Could no longer enter dark sanctuary, game would CTD and also some other quests same problem, it reached the point where I was getting a CTD every 5 minutes or so. Last game save size was 18mb.
I started a new game and no crashes whatsoever until I reached about level 25. Current game save size is 10mb so I'm thinking it is related to the size of the saved game.

Hi Bethesda I'm the man who wrote this post originally and now i'm really MAAAD ,I've played your game again from zero with a new save file and you know what I'm getting the same CTD in all same places from reiverwood ,exiting Jorrvaskr, entering Understone keep and so on..WTF? I'm at level 58 and 132hours in the game ,last time i was at 61lvl and played 150+hours ,can you fix this problem or what for god's sake, your game is a Mess ! I don't care about bugs ,all i want to finish at least one time this game ! explore all locations ! and once again i can't do that. this game is not 300h of gameplay ,this is just 100h+ and after that game over because of this CTD in specific places with no fix for this. can you gives us any tips or info are you working on this problem in upcoming patches ?or i need to delete this game forever?
