After reaching 100 in a skill...

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:06 am

If a character has 100 in a given skill, does the continued use of this skill still contribute towards levelling the character up or not? For example, if you have 100 Pickpocketing and still continue to loot the pockets of every person in Skyrim, is it helping you progress from level 38 to 39 or are you just spinning your wheels at that point?

Thanks.

no it does not, because you don't actually earn experience for your overall level, your overall level is based on how many skill levels you have, so if you want to reach max level (81) you need to get to 100 in every skill.

It may go up to 100.99. I've noticed on my Alchemy skill when I'm at the Alchemy Table my progress bar shows 100 on the left side and 101 on the right side, but I haven't noticed if the bar is full and stopped just short of 101.

You only gain XP when the skill increases, and you aren't allowed to go past 100 skill. AKA nope.

Nope. It's like the kid whose mom tied him to the jungle gym with a harness and strap. You can tug it on all you want but you ain't moving any further.....at least not in that skill. Time to switch to another skill tree.

...but if the jungle gym is 100 and the edge of the sand box is 101 then you might get to 100.99. :P

I just checked and my Alchemy skill is 100.99. I haven't noticed though - do we only get LVL XP for full levels gained in our skills?

The skill bars immediately jump to 100.99 once you've hit 100.

This might be a stupid question, but is it possible that Bethesda raises the level cap for skills seeing as you can get to 100.99 as it is. I guess the argument against that is that there aren't any new perks unless those can be added via DLC as well.

My guess is no. 100 is a nice 'even' number. I suspect it's just the way the coding is because it seems in every game I've played the XP always goes to the level right after the cap and stops even when the cap isn't going to be raised further. I suspect our class-less level will be raised to 100 or 100.99 at some point, but I doubt our skills will go higher. However they can be raised past 100 with enchantments sooo... :P
