After-Skyrim Explanations, or, "What Happens to Dovahkii

Post » Mon Jul 02, 2012 6:40 pm

In most Elder Scrolls sequels, the "fate" of the hero of the previous game is somewhat explained through in-game lore (e.g. books, dialogue, etc.). For example, Morrowind's Nerevarine goes off on an expedition to Akavir and the Champion of Cyrodiil turns into Sheogorath. Now, since our friend the Dragonborn could have become a vampire (thus making him immortal), it's unlikely that Beth will pull a "he died peacefully in the company of his friends Paarthurnax and Serana. The End." -type explanation for Dovahkiin's fate in the next Elder Scrolls game. It's also quite unlikely that he'll show up in the next Elder Scrolls game as well.

So, what are your theories for what happens to the Dragonborn after the events of Skyrim? Does he somehow turn into a dragon and join Paarthurnax in endless meditation? Does his life of crime finally take its toll on him when he is assassinated by [generic NPC]'s hired thugs? Does he hole himself up in Castle Volkihar, never to be heard from again? Does die in valiant battle against hordes of enemies? Does his depression over Serana's rejection force him to suicide? Or does Ohdaviing just get fed up at being called so many times and decide to eat him?

Post your theories below.

Hang on... Who are you to say that the Dovahkiin becoming a vampire is the true Lore?

My Dragonborn is destined for the Dreamsleeve. She cannot die a permanent, physical death, and will have to rely on entropy and the passage of time to make her fade away. She will unravel, and over the years there will be fewer and fewer places which can generate her cohesively. Eventually there will be nothing that can save her, so she will be forced to give up one form for another.

He continues to go on adventures after he has slain Alduin. However, one day during a bandit raid, he gets careless and takes an arrow in the knee. Disabled and unable to travel, he has to give up his life of adventuring. He spends the rest of his days working as a guard in Whiterun.

Whoops, I didn't mean for it to come across that way. Just saying that it was a possibility, and any post-Skyrim explanations might take that possibility into account :P

Lore-wise I bet there will be something in an expansion, in the same way the Shivering Isles was the end for the Champion of Cyrodiil. I think the vampire thing doesn't matter, since Vampires can die just like everyone else. I'm still wishing for the Zombiepocalypse. The Dragonborn can be last witnessed with a crossbow integrated into his missing arm and going out in true hero style being completely swamped by a sea of zombies.
