Agility and speed

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:09 pm

After revelation that perception have no influence on accuracy I got bit suspicious and decided to try how agility influence speed.

Surprise: it doe's not!

With two characters, one with agility 10 and other with agility 1 I run from Goodsprings to Primm using same route and same dress. It took approximately 3min 30sec of real time in both cases. Difference been just few seconds, easily attributed to rendering and small deviation in course.

If you are not using VATS, agility is useless unless you want some perks.

Thanks! :goodjob:

Also, it's a for certain thing that Medium and Heavy armors will slow you down, as well as having a two-handed or heavy weapon drawn. Would agility perhaps offset those factors or does running speed still remain the same?

I don't recall any FO game proclaiming that Agility has any effect on your speed.

This one does. Start up a new game and read the descriptions of the Vigor Tester at the bottom.

It also proclaimed that having a high Luck would cause more "enemy mishaps" but after playing from 1 to 30 and finishing the game, my Luck 10 character didn't really notice anything particularly bad happening to anyone who attacked him. Well, other than their heads exploding when I shot them there, but that's easily explained. :hubbahubba:

It seems wearing heavy armour (metal) do slow you down. If agility have any influence on this or 2h weapon wielding I don't know but I would be surprised if it did. Can be tested in the same way.

If you're going to test it for us, would you let us know what you find out? :)

Agility affects your "speed" in two ways:

- Gives you more action points to use in VATS

- Makes all weapons equip and reload significantly faster

Seriously, pick a missile launcher or something clumsy. Try it out with 5 agility, then with 10 agility. Be warned that the agility bonus is a little buggy sometimes, at least for me. Usually the very first time you fire and reload, it will be normal speed, and you have to do it again for the bonus to be noticed (and then it will be okay for the rest of your session).

OK, did tests with heavy armour (metal) and 2h weapon in hands (cowboy repeater): agility have no influence on speed under those conditions.

What was also surprising is that while wearing heavy armour do slow you down, it is not that much. I was running from Goodsprings to Primm in approximately 4min. Which is just 30sec slower than in light armour. In other words 15% slowdown. Its not going to make that big difference in combat so if you carry light armour and swap it in order to be faster in some combat situations, it will probably not made that difference.

With 2h weapon in hand I did same course in about 4min 30sec which is 30% slow down. (wearing light armour)

I did ...and it does not. I did test it on much shorter distance for obvious reasons (just 52sec) but there was no difference.

Well that is however not what most players understand under "speed" on character creation screen :) And will also not justify rising agility too much. I'll rather spend those extra points on other skills like luck, intelligence or strength. Unless I want certain perk or going to use VATS.

no it does not, checking GECK game settings, agility only affects reload speed and drawing speed, as well as other agility based derived statistics.

look VERY VERY closely at what the message in the game menu says.. it says agility effects WALK speed NOT run speed. So try setting yourself to walking pace instead of running pace.

What realy annoys me is there are no perks for 8-10 in any stat. Even if it had just been an enhanced version of a current perk it would have been nice to have the game give a dang if I have 9-10 in a stat.

I agree with this, it would feel rewarding for the player if he/she could 'specialise' in a perk.

What I always wondered about is does Travel Light even work? Whenever I take it I don't even notice a difference even though it's only supposed to be 10%. When you wear heavy armour you can actually feel yourself heavier and that can't be much more than 10%.

I'm just speaking out of personal experience here, and I do no have any evidence or anything to back it up, but when on my account with 10 agility, I wore reinforced metal armor, and then when I wore it on my account with about 3 agility, he ran ALOT slower, so I don't no if its ment to affect it or not, but it does for me.

Agility does not affect speed. Which is quite [re-tarded]. Why can't they make all SPECIAL actually matter to encourage more balanced builds?

I think the perk specifically mentions that it only works when wearing no armor whatsoever or light armor. Medium and heavy running speeds should remained unchanged. I took the perk tonight for my level 30 perk, but saved before I did so. I was pleased with the speed increase when wearing reinforced leather armor, so I kept the perk.

So is this another bug? It's pretty disappointing that I can't make a fast(er) moving character.

I ran through this game a bunch of times already in Reinforced Leather having more powerful armor under a hotkey to swap in case of emergency. Travel Light does work fine as long as you are wearing "light" apparel. And the boost it gives is great. Per every 10 hours of FNV, you save yourself one full hour by having this perk - and another few if you give up on heavier armors.

I know that it can work as I accidentally got it to work (made a book to boost all stats +10 assuming it would automatically stop it from being boosted over 10. It didn't). Stats showed up in the status screen as 10 but I ran a whole lot faster (completely outran the girl for the gecko missions to the gecko spot, by far. Without the +10 I barely beat her.) My guns were glitchy with how fast they were being drawn. I had a 95% to hit a gecko on every body part in vats from a good distance away. Every shot seemed to be a critical. I had to destroy the character because it also glitched out other aspects (in lock picking, the lock was not visible. Didn't stop me from picking the lock based off of how long it took for the sound to click for a failed turn and made an interesting challenge, but I was afraid of what other glitches might appear.)

Haven't tested the lower level differences but I know from that time that it does work. Perhaps the boost was downplayed to a small variation. Low enough to seem like a statistical variation. Of course if that is true, what is the point at all?
