Alan Wake

Post » Tue Aug 02, 2011 12:29 pm

well my friend lent Alan Wake to me and this is one of the coolest games i've ever played! the story of a man going up against the world for his wife. and the ongoing real life battle of Light and Darkness. i played through the game all night and i was terrifyed constantly. so this thread is for discussing Alan Wake, the dlc, the XBLA title this fall, and hopefully Alan Wake 2. also this contains end-game spoiler's read at your own risk.

Spoiler
what do you think he ment when he said it's not a lake. it's an ocean?

Its on my "buy when I get money" list. Combat looks dull, but story should be good.

it's pretty fun actually you use you're flashlight to destroy their darkness shield then you shoot them and they try to hack you to bits with axes [and they throw the axes at you] if it looks dull when you get it start on nightmare difficullty

more enemies, more damage dealt to you, less damage you give to them, and there are more of the taken then on hard or normal. or maybe it just feels that way on nightmare

I thought the graphics were quite nice, and the sound design made for a nice immersive horror experience. I haven't played the DLC packs yet, but plan to. Hopefully the sequel doesn't stray too far from the first (Red Faction designers, I'm looking at you!).

then I probablly wont play that mode. I prefer metro 2033s hardcoe mode, you do more damage, but so do they. You also pick up less ammo and filters, so in this case it could have been ammo and batteries.
Making them bullet sponges who can 1 hit kill you is just lame and lazy.

Great game. The ambiance is top notch and the forest by night is creepy as hell. There are some pretty amazing moments too (thinking about a certain chapter 4 scene in particular).
I do think the game could have used some more weapon and enemy variety though.
Spoiler
There was that one sign pretty early that warned against bears so I kept constantly waiting for a crazy darkness-powered hellbear to emerge. Unfortunately it never did.

It's one of those games I started to play through and then just sort of forgot about. I should continue it at some point. I'll agree with you about the atmosphere, though - very nicely done.

One of my favourite games. :) I followed it very closely right up to release and got the collectors edition. Actually won a ton of AW swag on a competition the devs ran. Have maaaaaaaaaaany AW tshirts, stationery etc. Signed collectors edition and AW torch are my favs though. :D

Should I be ashamed because I haven't played my country's entertainment industry's most expensive product?

The game is truly amazing, I've finished it and both it's DLC's. I'm planning on playing it again.
