Albums of the Year 2011

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:42 pm

I don't have an AOTY yet, but some albums from this year that I've been enjoying are

Weekend Nachos - Worthless
The Story So Far - Under Soil and Dirt
The Wonder Years - Suburbia, I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing
Touche Amore - Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me
Title Fight - Shed
La Dispute - Wildlife
Crucial Dudes - 61 Penn
Dance Gavin Dance - Downtown Battle Mountain 2
and last, but not least Joyce Manor - Joyce Manor.

The last one is certainly looking like my AOTY I love it sooooo much. :intergalactic:

You are really missing out, you need to check it out .

Which of their previous albums does it most resemble?

Favorite release this year has been Hollywood Undead's American Tragedy.

The only album release that's confirmed that I'll be watching for is Nickelback's Here and Now.

After that I'm looking out for Dr. Dre's presumed last album Detox.

I can't think of any that have been released this year, damn the last few years have went by quick enough that they all seem like last week.
I know this isn't released yet but it should be awesome, Disturbed - The Lost Children

So, Best (and of course worst) albums of the year so far - and ones you're still looking forward to.

Best :
"Reckless & Relentless" By Asking Alexandria
Runner Up : "Worlds torn asunder" by Warbringer

Worst :
"Lulu" by Metallica/Lou Reed
Runner Up : "Someone to watch over me" by Susan Boyle

Still Looking Foward to most :
"Imaginaerum" by Nightwish
Runner Up : "Radioactive" by Yelawolf

Honorable Mention : "TH1RT3EN" by Megadeth , way too soon to actually put it up there but I'm liking what I'm hearing with it alot so far

Albums of the year:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkgQ88G8Hj8 - "wilfully difficult, tinged with math-rock or post-rock or any of those other buzzwords critics throw out when frankly they don’t have a clue what’s going on. It’s also wilfully poppy"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FywJkdYc110 - "Eclectic eccentricity that would seem forced or pretentious from other acts are just the company stamp of dEUS, inc"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfOa1a8hYP8 - "There are a lot of ideas here that Trent Reznor has used in the past few NIN albums, but rarely with this level of consistency or finesse"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjJ8IPDQk6Q - "those obliterating rhythms smash their way into your skull and pummel your brain until you have no choice but to comply: you will love this album"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5EsiEDMWLc - "an insistent dancefloor groove that would make Britney blush and steps neatly up to Lady Gaga, whips the scrunchie out of her hair, Heathers-style, and tells her there’s a new sheriff in town"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxErqPPKu0Y - "Sonic Youth unplugged"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVME1RCoQP4 - Dinoflagellate Blooms - "deliberately, unashamedly, ‘soundtrack music’ to a film that doesn’t yet exist"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6uQxmsbwv0 - "a little bit Pram, a little bit Danielle Dax, and even slightly reminiscent of Siouxsie Sioux’s Creatures"

I've enjoyed a lot of the 2011 albums I've bought this year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzORRh6lzg4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F0QsjIflZw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1x7AeEogGM
+ Lots of stuff I got off Bandcamp by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQpybN0SnHc, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pOQrpvrNeM, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vu7DgQvlaes, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch9jV4abwS4, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlz4yN-KrmQ, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSHW_iLXTac, etc..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvxSMoODyWI is really good.

Can't say I'm disappointed with anything because I listen to songs on YouTube before I buy an album. Hard time deciding my top album though. It's between Beirut's The Rip Tide, Hugh Laurie's Let Them Talk, C418's Minecraft Soundtrack, Jake Kaufman's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAJaEUoP9y0, and Danny Baranowsky's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zD0EoDWyxA.

Yeah, not a very narrow top selection list. :P

Don't seem to have bought many 2011 albums...

The best one, undoubtedly, was Of The Wand & The Moon - The Lone Descent.

Best: Anna Calvi's debut is excellent, stuffed full of atmosphere and character. I also enjoyed Mastodon's new one, but it didn't blow me away.

Worst: Lulu. How that got recorded without either Lou Reed or Metallica pausing for a moment to realise it was terrible is a mystery.

Didn't know he had a new one. I've got Nighttime Nightrhymes and it's really good, will have to look out for that one.

Also I've not got around to listening to the new Primus record, heard mixed reviews, does anyone know if it's any good?

Alestorm - Back Through Time
Machine Head - Unto the Locust
Amon Amarth - Surtur Rising
Sylosis - Edge of the Earth
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
The Defiled - Grave Times
Children of Bodom - Relentless Reckless Forever (not nearly as good as there earlier stuff but still enjoyed it)

Many album releases this year have pretty much passed me by. I'm too busy discovering and collecting music from yester year.

I've followed gaming and movies far too much this year and left music by the way side. IMO its too difficult to stay tuned to all fields of entertainment news at the same time.

My favorite album of the year is easily Rise Against - Endgame.

I didn't even know they had a new album out :o, I'll have to get that asap
I haven't looked into much new music this year, the only things that come to mind are the new children of bodom album which wasn't as good as people said it was and RHCPs new album which was also pretty disappointing.

Yes a band called Goatpencs is sure to write some thought provoking songs. The rest of the albums and bands sound like they were generated using one of those online randomizer things. Except the generator was stuck on death metal.

It's infinitely more thought provoking than your useless post. Thanks for sharing your ignorant and unwelcomed opinion with us!

Sorry if I can't understand what they are screaming behind all that reverb. Modern metal is no better than auto tuned hip hop.

All I'm saying is if you want to be taken seriously don't call yourself Goatpencs.

It isn't like they plan on performing before the Queen of England. Musicians get together for various reasons, usually to create music and have fun doing it. The name is irrelevant in that aspect. My advice: don't listen to it if you don't like it.

Machine Head: Unto the Locust
Five Finger Death Punch: American Capitalist
The Defiled: Grave Times
Sylosis: Edge of the Earth

I'm sure I'm missing stuff.

I've loved:
* Black Veil Brides - Set The World On Fire
* Hollywood Undead - American Tragedy

I've been disappointed in:
* Lights - Siberia
* Blue October - Any Man In America

This year's been pretty rubbish for music I have to say (American Tragedy is [censored] amazing though). Was very upset with my disappointed list :( Last year was better.

If Adam & The Ants can perform before her (excepting their bass player who was too busy being a knob) I don't see why anybody else can't. :P
