Alchemy Skill

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 3:27 am

I've never really looked into alchemy that much, but I want to try and make some really good poisons and stuff for my arrows. Any ideas on how to start out and improve it quite quickly?

EDIT: Make sure you rest before making poisons/potions so you can get additional experience. Alchemy is slow to level, you may want to save some septims for alchemy training. There are various trainers in the world.

The more expensive the potion you're brewing, the more it increases your alchemy skill (and the more dough you get if you sell it, of course).
Here is a list of the most expensive potions:

Buy any giant's toe you find.

The more expensive the potion faster it levels. Uesp has a potion list that is really healpful. Other then that, buy all the rare and some not so rare ingredients you can. In my experience it takes a while to level no matter what. But you can make some really powerful poisons, alot more powerful then you can find anywhere.

Thanks! I guess I'll just have to find ingredients to make those pretty powerful potions.

Yeah I never really thought about making any potions, as I just bought the ones found in stores which weren't really that strong. I need to level my guy up anyway, a lot of his skills are still around the mid 20's. As I want him to get to Level 81 he needs to be an all-rounder, so alchemy would be a good skill to start in. :)

Mora tapinella, canis root and imp stool give you a nasty paralysis + lingering damage health poison.
To level up with cheap ingredients, salt, garlic and juniper berries give regenerate magicka and health, and sell for a good price considering the ingredients.

I'll try that recipe, thanks.

Always add a Giant's toe in your potions, you can sell it for a good septims. (For possible recipes off course) like Fortify Health.

Yeah, I've seen a potion that includes a Giant's Toe with some other stuff that sells for over 1,000 Septims. Going to make a lot of those to try and get to 100,000 Septims!

At some point you are going to have enough money. When that happens you may notice that potion of fortify health made with giant toes is a really good potion to actually use. +100 health for 300 seconds. It's 10 levels worth of health that you don't have to worry about running out in the middle of fight. Compare that to +73 fortify health enchantments you can get, or +70 peerless necklace of health that you can buy when you get to level 40.

Where am I able to buy the +70 Peerless Necklace from? I'm bang on 50 at the moment.

Does anyone know where I can find all the Alchemist equipment, like Crafters Gloves, etc?

I leveled alchemy on all my characters, but it's always a pain. I never really used poisons (except for the reverse pickpocketing perk) or pots much, but the bonuses to enchanting and smithing that alch brings is why I do it.
