Alchemy tips - Healing re-agents

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 5:59 pm

Howdy folks, I need a bit of help with re-agents in Skyrim. Since a lot of the alchemist stores dont stock that many healing potions Im having to make them myself. However its heavy weather doing so as most of the main re-agents are murder to find. I have a shedload of wheat (its cheap and plentiful) and I need other re-agents to add to it. I need some "bingo!" locations for things like blue mountain flowers and such so I can get the stocks I need. Its been very hit and miss for me atm with some of them. Like I can get 100 wheat easily but can only get like 4 flowers and 2 daedre hearts.

So folks where can I find other healing re-agents without to much fuss and without running around to far from a location?

Many thanks!

I would like to know where you get your wheat haha...I have actually only ever found 2 wheat (I don't really look for it).

Anyways I find mountain flowers by the sides of every single road I have come across.

Imp stools in caves

Can you char your own skeever tails? If so how do you do it (only found 3 pre charred).

Butterflies are on the mountain flowers usually for their wings.

I would like to "power level" alchemy one day and need to find a place that provides a decent amount of ingredients that will work together (or 2-3 locations that will all coincide with each other in making a potion).

I search every barrel and sack there is in a dungeon/cave and I buy it from all the food vendors/alchemists/general stores. Its pretty common and imo one of the easiest re-agents for healing to find. I know generaly where to find flowers and such, but I need somewhere I can find them in abundance. I need a lot of healing pots atm as Im getting up in the levels and the enemies are getting tougher to take down. So far I found that doing the Wizard college side-quests to find books sends me to so many caves I have shedloads of re-agents like glowing shrooms (200+). Once I find complementary items Im going to power level alchemy like crazy.

The 4 reagents I've found for restoring health are:

blisterwort - the alchemy and general stores in Whiterun have carried this; I've found some in caves where other mushrooms grow
wheat - stores have a bit, but there's a farm outside of Whiterun on the city side of the river where you can harvest 6-8
butterfly wings (monarch, not blue) - butterflies are pretty plentiful in the area around Whiterun during the day
blue mountain flowers - they're all over the sides of the roads especially heading east over the bridge from Whiterun, but blue seem to be a bit more rare than red and purple

One combination of the four (wheat and blue mountain flowers, I think) also fortifies health at the apprentice level.

yeah i know what the general locations are, im looking for some specific places that has blue flowers in abundance. Like I the mages college in winterhold has loads of snow berries in the yard for for fire resistance, that kind of thing. I know its a bit of an ask, but one has to try yes?

Goldenglow Estate by Riften. Patches all around the island but most are around the bee hives.

I have had a problem making enough healing potions aswell. Im choking on butterfly wings and wheat but the blue mountion flower is harder to come by in any real numbers. I haven't noticed it by the roads, guess I haven't been looking hard enough.

In the end I don't think I'll ever have enough potions to be comfortible so I did end up going into restoration a little to heal between battles without wasting potions.

Hope it helps.

Thanks buddy, Ill give that a look. Its a real pain to get healing potions in this game. All the alchemists seem to have a thing for resistance potions with multiple types in abundance, but almost no healing potions at all. It makes things like finding a sure fire locations for healing reagents a necessity.

Thanks for the help.

Found a nice one today while scouting around Whiterun;

Broken Fang Cave - Due West of WR

The area around here has lots of butterflies both blue and monarch and there are quiet a few blue mountain plants here also. Scout the area out as its wide open and the reagents are scattered around a wee bit. Managed to collect enough here for at least 20 good healing potions.

That is, pretty much, the point: you DO have to look for them and you WONT find them all nicely together in one place.

Explore, dont fast-travel and you will soon be over-burdened with things.

The further you go out into the wilds the more you will find certain things, but they are sensibly placed: swampy-things in swamps, mountian flowers on.. mountains, bees around bee-hives (and bears around bee-hives!)... bee-hives in deciduous forest (willows esp~). Barnacles, clams, fish-eggs - in the water. Fungi - in caves. Butterflies on flowers....Glow-bugs... out at night!!! ....Its all pretty logical really. ?_?

Edit:

TIP: run in third-person, zoom all the way out and look-down (in isometric view) you can now run and collect things by clicking A (xbox) without having to stop and focus on stuff, just run over things clicking "A" and you can hover them up (not too great for things that move like butterflies, but fine for flowers etc).

Go into free camera mode (Click and Hold down the Right stick, I think) then you can use the right stick to move the camera around and the left stick to zoom in and out
