alduin's wall: cant proceed - companions wont cross the brid

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:55 pm

So I left Esbern and Delphine behind and went ahead and solved the pillar puzzle for the bridge to get to Alduins Wall, except now that Esbern has caught up he and Delphine are stuck at the bridge and wont go over it. So this stops me completing anymore main story line quests.

I know this is a known bug, Im just wondering is there any way I can reset the quest (I dont mind playing the quest through again) so I can finish it and progress through the game?

Starting again from scratch would be devastating and may even make me give up playing the game (I just dont have the time to go through it again).

All I had to do was fast travel back to Whiterun, then back to the wall. Esbern got stuck and would not follow, but that worked for me.

It doesnt seem to matter how many times I fast travel between cities, they are always waiting at the same point before the bridge and wont budge from there.

can you unrelenting force them?

unfortunately he just runs back across the bridge and stands there when I tried this. I even tried this technique all the way to alduins wall (launching him across the pressure plated room was fun - he wont die) but he always walks back to before the bridge.

seems the unrelenting force push made a difference, I fast travelled once more back and forth and on return they were waiting there. Thanks to those who replied.

I have the same issue with this quest(XBOX), they are both waiting at the first bridge. I have tried the unrelenting force push, and as you mentioned above Esbern just returns to the same place. In the last post you say that it worked for you. Could you please describe how you did it? Did you use the unrelenting force push to throw him over the bridge and then immediately fast travel somewhere else and then back again, and when you returned they where waiting at the wall?

I have tried everything and I can't get past this point, so I would be very greatful if you (or someone else) would be able to help out.

I've had no issues with this quest, but I have had other quests bug out. The way I was able to fix it was to do a few other quests and it kinda' reset the 'mindset' of the game.

Is reloading the most recent save before the start out of the question?

The thing is that this glitch only seems to appear if you discover this cave before you start this quest, and I have played a lot of hours since I discovered this cave and would be relieved if I don't have to go back that far.

are you on PC or console? If on PC simply use console commands to move esbern and delphine to where you're standing, check the wiki for the commands.

It seems to be a trend; you find a quest item or quest location prematurely, and everything gets messed up.
It would be sweet if the system was smarter than this.

Its's on xbox so I don't have the console commands available.

Yeah, I got the impression when searching the internet for solutions that there are a lot of problems with skyrim, not only this mission. I'm waiting for the 1.4 patch to be available, but this quest wasn't listed in the things that the patch fixes, and you never know if or when Bethesda includes a fix for this problem in a patch.

So now I'm trying to figure out if I should go back before I found the cave and restart from there or if I should go ahead and play side quests and that stuff and hope/pray that a patch will be coming and fix this problem for me.

Is there anyone that thinks that this will be included in a patch?

...or just give us the option to store/drop quest items - they could add a warning box that pops up telling us what we're about to do and let us proceed at our own risk. Hell, they could even have quest items respawn in their locations like dungeons respawn.

They did not seem to want to cross for me either but all I had to do is go to the temple room and then have the game wait for a couple of hours and they have arrived

I tried this too, I have waited at several locations, the cave, at the wall and in the outside world but nothing happens. I used the waiting function in the game as I suspect you did too and not keeping the game "unpaused" for a couple of hours...

Still having this problem myself. Waited at every location in and around the temple, fus ro dah'd the buggers (they even became hostile towards me) did some other quests. Nothing. it's very frustrating as i began this quest while at lvl 54 :|.. no previous save. And this bug isn't listed on the quest fixes of 1.4.

would be nice if we'd get some Dev feedback on this.

I deceided to go back to my ealier saves and start over from before I descovered this cave(I luckily made a new save for every save), I lost about 25 hours but I prefer to be able to finish the main quests, you never know when, or even if, a fix for this problem will be coming.

The cave that the entrance to sky haven is in (at Karthspire), with the two bridges. But as written above, this glitch only appears if you have discovered this cave and done the puzzles before you go there while doing the quest "alduins wall" and Esbern and Delphine is with you.

I had this (after discovering the cave previously) but just carried on upstairs and eventually they came. Took a while, though.

Is this just after the fire trap stone floor thing? You need to disable the trap then they will follow, if not then just try other things like reloaded previous saves and fast traveling away and waiting long enough for the cell to reset.
