It's a very difficult vault; just be sure you have enough Rad-Away and Rad-X. It's not only the AA in that Armory. It has almost everything, including that Pulse Gun. You'll need high Lockpick or

the key from Pearl's file cabinet
to open the storage case it's in. I always give the AA to Boone but many here use it themselves. Yes, that Armory is worth the trip. Good luck. :)

I have 100 lockpick and the only problem with it is that I don't carry bobby pins XD so I save and reload everytime the lock breaks as I have to force it to open it works eventually

I love the All-American, favorite weapon in game. I have to ask, why would you put 100 points into Lockpick and not keeps bobby pins on you????

Yes the All American is worth getting as it does a couple points more damage then a Marksman Carbine and can carry 4 more rounds per clip. There is also a whole bunch of weapons/ Armor in that Armory room. Take some Rad away, Rad X and some sore of Radiation Suit I think there's one near the entrance but make sure to have a seperate save file before going into the dungeon as if you save in the area where the Overseer is your save may get corrupted and nonplayable. If you have a high powered gun that's all you need for the dungeon. Also don't panic about the Radiation that's what the Rad X, Rad away and Radiation Suit are for.

As was mentioned there are a TON of weapons in the armory. The All-Almerican is pretty cool, plus it knocks down ememies at higher levels. Even Deathclaws.

Boone + All American = Lord of Death. He is just insane with it. All you'll hear from him is "All mine!" and 10 rapid single shot succession of .556 and limbs go flying. I was amazed when I gave him that rifle. If you get the space suit from the Repcon test site it has a DT of 10 and rad resistance of 40, making it a no brainer to bring with you for that. I left Boone at the door because of the radiation, but he came running when I was fighting ghouls, who are quite tough in that area. The security ghouls are like the Glowing Ones. Like everyone else says, lots of RadX and RadAway.

Its never done that for me before.

The All American is my favorite gun though, so I would definitely say its worth it. Even if you dont like it i'd say its worth the trip down there just to raid the armory.

Wow, really? My Guns skill is 100 though. I almost got killed by Deathclaws a couple times because they get knocked down and for a second or two look dead, then they pop back up. Most of the time I pick em off from distance though.

It's decent, but there are better guns out there.

I use a 100 EN and Guns character. Definitely a step up from the majority of Carbines and scout rifles in the game.

However, there are several other weapons in the Armory. Pulse pistol among them, several explosives, minigun, and other weapons.

(5.56mm not .556)
Does he actually use it? I can't get him to take anything other than his Hunting Rifle.

Yes, he does. So would Raul and Cass and the others.
Did you make sure you put ammo into Boone's inventory? Companions can't use weapons (outside of their default weapon) until you put the required ammo into their inventory as well as the gun itself. Other than that...many early weapons are not sufficiently better than their defaults (dmg & dps), thus they won't use them.
