So I tried to register an account for these forums using the standard email address/password mechanism. After successfully signing up and activating^* the account, I tried to log in. Each time I tried I got a message saying that my email address or password was incorrect!??! Just to be sure I quadruple checked the CAPS Lock key. Which could not have been the problem as I could clearly see my email address as I typed and it was not CAPS.

SO after several attempts I did the "forgot my password" thing. Figuring somebody must have forgotten it, probably Bethesda. I got the new password and tried again. Nada, same error message over and over.

SO I created another new account with a different email address, figuring maybe they just didn't like a character I had in my email name (funnier things have happened.)

Same thing happened again, they didn't accept the login after I activated the new account.

So, unhappily, I clicked the "log in with Facebook" button and was able to get logged in, although I could not link to the forum accounts I had set up because my "email address or password" was incorrect. shrug

So does everyone here have to log in with Facebook? I only ask because it seems there is no way to log in with email and password.

^* I added the emphasis to the fact that I activated the account because I know someone will ask if I activated the account first. I also realize that having said that someone will still ask me if I activated the account. But now we can just assume they are being ironic rather than failing to read my post first when they ask that question

First of all, thanks a million for not asking if I activated my account

Second, thanks for confirming that the login mechanism works for some people.

Now the question is, have NEW users been able to log in to the forum recently. Perhaps the system is broken somewhere.

I ask these questions because not long ago I discovered a bug in the EA forums where new users were having problems with logging in because of a set of circumstances that the EA forum administrators were un-aware of and through some questions they were able to fix both the problem and some security issues they were dealing with.

You were saying that it said either your email address or password was incorrect. Whenever I log in on here, it asks me for my username and password. Were you entering in your email by mistake, or did you mean to say username?

Well hush my mouth. Turns out that was it. I didn't even notice the discrepancy because the browser was filling in the "form" and must have assumed the username is the email address because so many forums work that way.

So much for relying on auto form filling in a browser, but I honestly can't remember the last time any forum used anything but the email address for login credentials. I suspect that explains the browsers quirky behavior.

I get annoyed when sites force you to sign in useing an email account instead of username :/ my usernames are short where my emails are long and tedious to type

I'm not sure I've ever encountered a forum where you had to use your email to log in :blink: If I did, it hasn't been recently.
