As you know, Gamespot likes to do random tournaments and well, they've got another one going, and this one I actually caught in time to participate.

It's titled All Time Greatest Game Sidekick, and it focuses on our heroe's right hand man (or woman), the ones who stand just outside the spotlight while the hero takes all the credit. I was gonna scream bloody murder that Jan Ors wasn't on the list. Then I saw her.

But they did forget Max from the Sam & Max series of games. Also, I don't see Maureen "Mo" Corley from Full Throttle.

Modryn Oreyn was awesome. How I enjoyed walking with him for mile after mile so very, very slowly.

I hate these. We're going to have a character like Morte from Planescape Torment or Minsc being beaten by the companion cube (CUZ LOL SO RANDUM) or Captain Price, just like how The Master got beaten by Bowser or Shodan got knocked out in the first round.

I liked how last time Master Chief got beaten by Bubble Bub, Sephiroph getting beaten by General RAAM and GLaDOS getting beaten by Darth Vader

I would agree that Alyx Vance has a lot going for her as a videogame sidekick. She's not only the romantic interest for Gordon Freeman, she's a capable fighter and scientist. She shows compassion in her reactions toward the humans that the Combine have mutilated (the techs that had their hands, feet, and more removed). She doesn't have a cartoonish figure or fantasy armor either.

From their list, HK-47 and Morte. Otherwise I'd say Metal Gear Mk2 from Snatcher or Otacon.

Iwazaru from Killer7 is kinda cool too.

Did these people even play Resident Evil 5? Didn't they notice that regardless of difficulty, how you play, how good you are, she'd walk into your range of fire and die because her AI is [censored]? Or that she'd get herself killed at whatever opportunity she had at hand because you as a player can't look after her all the god damned time, and she's [censored] armed and can't kill [censored]?! God, I hate that game...

As far as character and personality, I'd say Alistair from DA:O. He was my favorite character in that game, probably from any game.

I think it's weird Yoshi's on that list. I mean it's pretty weird seeing Mario ride him now that Yoshi has become sort of a person, he even drives his own Maro-Kart, he probably goes grocery shopping, he probably has a wife and kids, but along comes this mustached guy that rides him from behind every so often.
