Beth has nothing to do with New Vegas. They only publish it. Marketing might be in their area as well, I dunno

If they can have different races such as African American, Hispanic, Caucasian why couldn't they implement a ghoul race.

Well in the games where you're coming from a Vault, it wouldn't make much sense why there's a ghoul running around. It could work for New Vegas and any future Fallout games where you're not coming from a Vault (unless it's the one that became Necropolis. I forgot the number), but even so it'd have to be a radically different gaming experience. For the normal people, radiation will make you sick and kill you at high dosages, where as for ghouls it heals them. There's also the issue that the radiation healing you would be make the game too easy, since a lot of the wasteland is irradiated after all.

Can't you just wear the Ghoul Mask and pretend you're a ghoul, or is it really that much of an issue? D:

Why would you want to be a goul? Everyone would shun you and It would be like a rash in ur pants all the time

Being a ghoul would be a drastically different experience. You'd be healed slightly from radiation, maybe even at higher levels with higher doses get special abilities. (Such as throwing volatile flesh grenades at the sacrifice of health) But people would be more likely to shoot you, it would be more difficult to develop a good reputation with non-mutant humans, etc.

That's why I want to play a ghoul aswell. Different dialogs and interactions, reactions from others and, foremost, role playing.

I'm sure my ghoul character would turn into a Desmond type of ghoul, because of all the hating and not show yourself weak. Then when someone finally shows up and doesn't hate you, you just come off as a [censored] :P

Didn't they say in one of the latest news that we will be able to choose our origins?
If we can choose our origin it'd be great to choose a ghoul origin.

Maybe some of us want to be shunned.
I like the rash in my pants, feels real good to scratch it. O_o

Really? Wasn't that like one of the first information/speculations that came out, then the devs said it was a hoax? Like you could choose different background stories, and one of them was that you were a ghoulified chinese dragoon.

I think a german magazine/homepage said something like that aswell just recently, it was translated to english in google translate and it was info that kinda contradicted itself and what devs had said before, so I don't really think people took it to serious. :/

Agreed. "Player ghoulification" is what it's normally called on the forum. A search using that will find topics on it.

Anyways, Welcome to the Forum :D.

They can't put that in the game, because Ghoulification is a very long process.
Not only that, there's no way back to being Human.

In the Elder Scrolls Series they have Vampires, which are treated like Ghouls in Fallout,
but they can turn back to normal via a cure. There's no cure to Ghoulification yet.

Edit: If however you really want that in the game, I suggest you at-least go to the people
in charge. Obsidian are behind the development of New Vegas. Bethesda's just the Publisher.

Considering how many people want this feature ( I for one, don't think it would fit the franchise), maybe bethesda should look into buying up the Stubbs the Zombie franchise and re-releasing that.... They could do it in FIRST PERSON!!

It would certainly be nice to have a quest that lets you do that... I'm sure they could find a way to get around the fact that it takes a while to turn into a ghoul. Maybe the player would join a ghoul community and elect to become a ghoul, and "6 months later" would flash on the screen and you'd be a ghoul. A silly idea I know, but I'm just throwing stuff out there. It would just be nice to have the option to become one.

Hey, maybe they could make a spin-off where you could play a ghoul. It would be an action-RPG but with less content and more action so it would be easier to make, with an above-head camera, sorta like a hack & slash but with guns... http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_Brotherhood_of_Steel.

Fixed.

All seriousness aside, I don't think it's very likely ghouls will be playable. In fact, I think it's entirely out of the question.

What is there in ghoulification that makes it so wanted feature? If it doesn't have some significant gameplay impacts other than skin color and slightly adjusted dialog options, it's - imo - just a waste of developement time. And with the time Obs has, I'd rather they focused on polishing the core elements instead of tacking in some fruitless features like that.

Just my 0.5 cents.

I always thought it would be interesting if they did have a story line in which you were in ghoul transition or could even get vatted into a super mutant. And then play the rest of the game as that creature. The game would have to implement three different whole stories for that to work though.

You were joking but maybe they could make a spin off/mini game or for You Modders out there heres an Idea. I posted it before.

Spoiler don't watch unless you don't ever plan on playing fallout Tactics. ====> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2ZcpcO7C58.

A mini game or a very good mod Called Mutant Liberation Army (that someone can make). I would like it to be Midwestern BoS.

Just an Idea.

Playing as a ghoul has been talked to death on here. A search using "Player Ghoulification" or Play as a Ghoul will show that. (The OP being new he/she might not know that, so that is not directed at the OP)

Wa, how dare you! :o

:P

---

Just so you know, it would be extremely difficult to make a Fallout title with ghouls as a playable race. Bioware, who excel at writing, failed amusingly in that department with DA:O.

"Hello! You are an elf!"

---

snip

I can't think of a way to make a spin-off with the PC as a ghoul, without it being a very "lite" title...

When I came up with the idea of Mutant Liberation Army it was more of an idea for a mod or mini game. Fan made would be great. It's my favorite ending to Fallout Tactics.

Ghoulification is definitely very high on my list for new fallout features if not at the very top.

Radiation healing, new hideously awesome character features, the world interacts with you differently, some people run from you, some people try to kill you, some run and some people won't even talk to you. You would also be able to get into places and have conversations and quests and items you wouldn't previously be able to have before.

Though I wouldn't offer it in character creation as much as I would turn it into a quest result. Similarly to Moira, the character gets bombarded and instantly and violently turned.

It's very easy to see why people want it. It would bring that much more excellent depth to an already ridiculously replayable formula.

This thread has been done to death. You will most definitely not be allowed to play as a ghoul. Then again, I was wrong about the whole ADS thing, so you might. Just don't get your hopes up.
