Allways same error when Verifying integrity of game cache

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:47 am

Every time I Veryfy Integrity of Game Cache for FAllout NV on Steam there is the same error.

Each time I get this message:

"1 files failed to validate and will be reacquired."

I get a message that "Fallout New Vegas has finised downloading".

According to the View Details page in Steam, the file size is 808 bytes

The error is repeated every time I Verify Integrity of Game cache, regardless if I've just started the computer or Steam reports that "Fallout NV has finished downloading".

I've tried Verifying integrity of game cache followed by defragmenting game files but that didn't solve the problem.

So, apparently some file is downloaded but not saved to the harddisk as it's supposed to.

What is going on?

Also, when starting the game, the first time it will not start and Windows tells me the game has stopped working.
I close the window and restarts the game. This time it starts.

When I shut down the game, there is a message on the desktop that the program is not working correctly, if I like to search for a solution or ignore?

My system:
Win7 Ultimate 64-bit
I'm the sole user of the computer and use the default user account that inherits admin rights.
All drivers are up to date (also DirectX and so forth)
Win7 is installed on a different partition than the Steam games are.
Fallout NV is not saving to the Steam Cloud.
Game is version 1.3
Antivirus is Windows Essentials.

As far as the file validation failure check the gamevalidation.log stored here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
or whereever your steam folder is. The file should be Installscript.vdf. This is a very common issue that is not game breaking.

Thanks for the info.

Luckily the file is the one you suspects so at least I don't have to worry about that :)

Same thing broke my game actually. It was working perfectly before the new patch and now it always crashes as soon as the game engine starts.

Also have this issue. Game crashes every time it tries to load the engine. Any way to fix this?
