Is there any way of getting the patches that isn't through Steam? I'm having an incredibly difficult trying to patch through the steam client, and basically given up that way.

it should be automatic. Exit Steam (including the icon in the notification area, and restart.

What build is your .EXE file?

Are you using any modified exe files or textures? If you are using certain mods (including archive invalidation) that replace or modify core game files rather than simply existing as a .esm or .esp file it can interfere with the patching. For example, have you replaced the falloutnv.exe or the laucnher files with script extender versions, 4gb enabled versions, or cracked versions? Doing so may impede a steam update.

That's not the problem though, it shows that I have an update, and it'll even try to download it, but when it does, and won't progress anywhere. It'll just stick at 0%.
And I shouldn't have modded anything, but I'm reinstalling the game just to be sure. The patching problem isn't exactly unique to F:NV, so I don't believe that's the exact problem

Ok- but you didn't answer either of our questions.

Also, try resetting your router and broadband/cable modem if you use one. Sometimes routers will become stuck in a state where FTP transfers will repeatedly fail at the same point. I have experienced this with some Linksys, Buffalo, and Netgear routers in the past using stock firmware.

Sorry, edited above post to more correctly answer your question. Also, I'm running on dial-up, so no router for me. I also have steam configured to my speed and closest servers.

Oh god, dialup? That may make things a little more difficult. Err... it may not be "stuck" at 0% then. It may simply be that it will take several weeks to fully download the patch and you are not seeing any progress in the percentage because in the time you have watched it has not even downloaded more than .4% of the patch.

If you have a laptop I would suggest finding a local coffee shop or similar place with free wireless broadband and trying to patch while there. If you do not have a laptop, it may be quicker to take your desktop over to a friend's house assuming they have broadband. I'd suggest doing so under the pretense of playing lan games or something. Letting them be an AWP-[censored] for an hour or two may be worth not having to wait until you're 90 for patching to complete.

Even when I let it download for a few days and Steam tells me I downloaded several hundred megabytes, basically more than the patch should be, and I still see a 0% progress? I'm fine and live with slow downloads. But I almost believe this is no progress.

The cumulative patches to this point are more than a few hundred megs. I think they may even be 2 GB.

Odd- my patch download after reinstalling the game from disc was 1.9 GB. I wonder if some files installed from the disc were invalidated upon inspection or something for me.

Interesting.. It only downloaded a couple 20mb patches for me (i just reinstalled the game). I have US version btw, not international so that might be the case

Dial-up users are at an unfortunate disadvantage either way and that part is kind of disappointing for those still using dial-up (like much of the non-US)

I don't expect the patch to be posted though because it would be consider warez

Mine is technically multi-lang since it's english/french(canada), which is why I'd expect it to be larger than say the US one.

For folks on dialup, the best option is to run it at night, or grab a laptop run into down with a free wifi spot, with your copy of of the game on it. Update, then copy it back. Huge pain, but large parts of the population still don't have broadband in the US or Canada.

Ah I wouldn't be suprised if the language version has something to do with it then. I'm pretty sure my install options from disc included far more than 2.

I hope, no one gets Angry if i use this Thread for some other (not so different) Topic ?

I Downloaded the Newest Patch today, and the Game runs even worse than before. (More & Longer Lags, and -overall- lower FPS - with the same Graphic-Settings applied as before)
So i removed it. But i rather would play the Game, so Reinstalling is a Option, but: As i heard, Steam only Upgrades the Game to the newest Version. Which causes more Problems on my PC.

now for the Question: Can i Download the Steam-Savegame-Bug-Fix, and ONLY this Fix somewhere ?

Question- are you using a d3d9.dll fix you downloaded from somewhere? It is not compatible with the patch. Try it without it.
