Amount of gold vendors have

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:35 pm

I was watching a youtube video and the guy's fences had 4000 gold each. Mine have 1000 each.

What determines how much gold a vendor has?

Perks. Invest in the Shops and they have more money. Requires Speech Perks to get do this.

However, Fences are the only Merchants that have up to 4,000 in gold, not sure what makes them have that much as it is a range.

My understanding is that completing the TG quest line and becoming Guild Master will provide a bunch of fences with 4,000 gold each in the Guild.

I can't confirm as I just reached Guild Master status last night and then crashed.

It gets up to 5,000 with the top Speech perk. Not sure why but in my current game the trader in Riverwood now has 11750 in replenishable gold. Maybe the additional 1,000 gold perk glitched and added 10K.

This. ^ ...pretty much. In actuality:
Spoiler
After you complete 5 "Small jobs" of any type from Vex and/or Delvin in each city (Windhelm, Whiterun, Solitude, and Markarth) you'll get a "Special Job" for each city. After the Special Job is complete you'll get a fence in each of those cities with the 4K.)

[If you invest in] the trader in Riverwood now has 11750 in replenishable gold. Maybe the additional 1,000 gold perk glitched and added 10K.

When you restore the thieves guild to their former glory the amount a fence has goes up with each completed task toward that goal. They top out at 4k gold.

NP. It took me a while to figure WTF the wikis were talking about because of
Spoiler
the "Small" and "Special" tags. Of course, by being Guildmaster you have done all the special jobs, but you do get the Fences before completing Under New Management.

And just to add one more thing about the fences for the TG:

1 Fence: Tonalia and the new fence will still only have 1000 gold each

2 Fences: Tonalia and the new fence will have 2000 gold each

Etcetera until you've completed all 5 city influence quests and special jobs. Then they'll all have 4000.

I'm kind of embarrassed to ask this because I should know by now. But are there fences in Markarth, Windhelm, and Whiterun? I know about the lizard in Solitude, the guy in Markarth, and of Tonalia, but I don't think I've ever ran across any others.

Yes.
Spoiler

Markarth: Endon (Redguard, black dude) - roams around the entrance and path up to Vlindrel. Wikis say he hangs out in Silverblood Inn, but I've never seen him in there.
Windhelm: Niranye (Altmer chick) - booth in the market area.
Whiterun: Mallus Maccius (Imperial dude) - in Honnigbrew Meadery/Black-Briar Meadery East.

Edited for format.

Cool. Thanks. I messed up when I asked about Markarth, I knew that one. But not about Windhelm and Whiterun. Thanks again! :)

NP. And, I never knew about the progressive gold that the Fences have. :P I've only done the TG once and I pretty much did all the quests to get the Fences and never visited them before I got all 4 (additional) I guess.

I'm not quite sure it's a glitch. Remember that in Morrowind you had the Creeper (5.000) and the Talking Mudcrab (10.000). It's on purpose that the Riverwood merchant has so much money. Besides each time you go to that village you find a dragon. Why? It's all connected

This is awesome! I sold more stolen gear last night than you can shake a stick at! Honestly, other than checking items for sale by Merchants, I may never go to them to unload loot again. I mean.....I say that now......and it'll likely change. But having one person with that much coin and willing to buy anything is fantastic.

Also, Enthir in Winterhold acts as a Fence, but I haven't had much luck with him buying everything - he seems picky. :P Also, you have to buy/sell from him as soon as you can because he bugs out after you become Archmage. IDK if he bugs out like that if you do the TG stuff because I made sure to interact with him as soon as I could on my Assassin/TG chick so he works for her. :P

Probably wouldn't hurt to hit him up again just to avoid the potential glitch. I've traded with him previously after he offered to assist during my attempt to translate the book.

Yeah, and if you need Daedra Hearts he's a good source if the other place does that thing.
