An amusing situation...

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:54 am

I put this here because it describes a part of a quest, but this just happened to me.

After obtaining the first orb for Meridia's quest, you have to go back to the statue for the next stage. I got the orb and FT'd back to the shrine, she started to speak and then lifted me up into the sky, as she does. After her first sentence I heard a roar below, I look down and it's a dragon of course, flying around the shrine probably wondering where the hell I just went. We're ok up here I think to myself...but I'll have to deal with it when she puts me back down.

Anyway she waffles on for a bit more, but I notice the roar getting louder. No...it couldn't....? Surely not? But then....why not, it can fly. Sure enough I look down again and it was flying up to us, uh oh. All controls are locked until she's done talking not much I can do, just wait. But it attacks, me at first though didn't take any damage. Then starts to attack Meridia, or the aspect of Meridia, or whatever it is. This interupts her speech and she tried to get away from it, waddling from side to side, as much as a ball of light can waddle from side to side but it definitely did. It "lands" in mid-air, or did the landing animation at least, and tries to bite Meridia. Naturally I can do sweet f-all as the controls are still locked, just watch. But seeing as she can't attack and likely has no way of killing it that's that, reload. No biggy but, maybe the devs are aware of this potential....problem, maybe not. Just thought I'd share it anyways.

So yep, that just happened, thanks for reading.

Thanks, yeah I reckon there's quite a few potential oddities like this that can arise. They can't catch everything, just have to see the funny side :)

I just looooove the AI and I hope they don't try to fix that. I posted about a draugr stroll in the sabrecat thread in this forum and sometimes, the more funny or fun things that can happen only enhance the experience. You ended up with a great story to tell and you'll always remember that. We should save often in different slots so we can enjoy the unexpected. :D :tes:

I guess it shows how weak the Daedric Prince(sses) are outside of Oblivion. :P

In a similar, but not as funny, incident: a Frost Troll messed up my dialogue with the last Boethiah's cult member and I had to exit the dialogue so I didn't get to read it all and choose my path. <_< I didn't have a recent enough save (not even an Auto-Save) that I was comfortable with so I just left it in limbo - not sure there's a good way out of Boethiah's Calling anyway.

In Oblivion dialogue was frozen whilst they spoke, so events like yours and mine wouldn't of happened. Apart from looking a little odd as it froze things in the background (Poeple walking past etc) maybe they should've kept it?

I prefer the now, and I love your story.

I had experienced a strange situation too, Sibbi Black-Marven at the Riften Jail woke up in the morning as I was waiting to hand in his quest, he got up, walk right through the jail door, then went to the empty cell next to his, open the jail door and started sleeping on the bed in there.

LOL.....I saw Sibbi do that too. I was like "What the hell are you doing in that cell?"

It must be Maven's influence affecting even how he is treated in jail. His probably seen as a patron, and not a prisoner.

On a side note, I've noticed how npc's can still enter their homes with locked doors, even when you pickpocket their keys.

You really think he has to be behind the locks? C'mon, he's a Black-Briar in Riften. He can do the hell he wants to. Including walking through the jail door.

I found the OP's story... amusing. Yes. So there's an invisible solid platform up there on which to "land on". I wonder if it's only on a small area or actually anywhere in the game area, but so high that you cannot reach it. I might try to get as far away from Meridia's aspect as I can the next time I'm up there. And/or I might try turning off clipping to see if I can get there so that getting there isn't a part of that quest. Nice story bro! :D Poor Meridia.

this is one evidence that dragons are nothing but nuisance in this game. You need to kill a dragon? Sure...*goes around* where the * are all the dragons gone.
when u dont need a dragon, boom here he comes, spoiling ur golden moment.

I used Marked for Death on him one time when he was standing in his suite-cell, he disappeared and reappeared sleeping in the cell next to his.

Edited for clarity.

Not the dialogs themselves but cut scenes could be interrupted.

Think this is pretty epic but not as cool as A5m0d3us storry

My coolest in Skyrim was then Lydia was caught in Paarthurnax flames then he flamed you during the greeting. She attacked him and they was fighting until Lydia was knocked out.

Huh? There's no consequences based on your choices in most quests? Well, alright then. I'm still gonna do that quest, nice reward and Boey is my patron Daedric Prince. I can call you Boey, right? Right?

I agree. The AI is pretty good for the most part, but there are times when it just behaves extremely odd. It's very amusing, just like the OP's story.
