DB and heavy armor whats the issue?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 5:02 am

Here is my question I am a level 42 tank that weilds a 2H and wears Dadric/heavy armor. In the past I have left the DB alone and did not play because my charcaters tend to play the noble warrior type who think thieves and assisns are just the lowest level of people. I just joined the DB for the first time and find it silly that I need to change armor and tatics to do the simple hits being assigned. Money is no issue so I pay a fine with every hit. What issues am I going to have if I just go in and waste someone and then "pay the fine" and walk away? i will just go to another dugeon and and recoup my cost of doing business and move on. I think its bada$$ to just walk up, not say anything a lay a 2H upside a head and try to walk away (kind of a Taratino "Kill bill" thing).

You don't have to wear the DB armor if you dont want to. I performed a few assassinations yesterday wearing my heavy armor.

This is why the dark brotherhood was so much fun in Oblivion. Sure, the main goal was killing the target, but there were often specific ways the killing had to be done, or barring that, extra bonuses for stealth or otherwise avoiding trouble. Some of the quests were really fun, like being locked in a house filled with guests hunting for treasure and picking them off one by one, or infiltrating the fortress of a target who is ill and replacing his medicine with poison. Sure, some of the quests could be completed by walking in, killing, and walking out, but there were special bonuses for not being seen by other NPCs or guards.

I think 1000 gold is a little low for killing someone. Should be atleast 5000 gold. So either you kill someone and not be seen or you really just want someone dead and walk up to them and kill them.

Anyway did you know you could just confront the person to be killed? Once you tell them you're with the dark brotherhood they will turn hostile and you can kill them with no fine.

I would just leave it alone and do it on another character. More fun that way than doing everything on one character imo.

There is no penalty for doing so. You are certainly not required to have finesse in this games DB. Dissapointing for some :(

Mayhaps a DLC will expand this lackluster simpleton questline. I can hope.

This may be more appropriate for the spoilers section since I can see a lot of answers getting into spoilers. But I will give a non-spoiler answer. The way you want to play the DB questline seems like a perfectly valid choice to me both from a gameplay perspective and from a lore perspective.

Frist, the gameplay. I haven't done the DB questline in Skyrim myself, but from what I know about the game, there are no real penalties for your actions and you cannot get (EDIT: permanently) kicked out of any guild. Bad game design IMO, but that seems to be the way the game is designed, so let's go with it. You will probably miss out on some quest rewards by bludgeoning your way through the DB questline, but that's your choice.

Second, the lore. In Oblivion there was an Orc member of the DB who finished his contracts in the exact way you are describing. His dialog was some of the funniest stuff in the whole game. So, yeah, bashing your way through DB with 2H and heavy armor and making a huge mess in the process has support in the lore. Go for it!

I got "kicked out" (I couldn't continue the quest line or start any radiant quests) of the Thieves guild the other night. Granted it didn't take much to get back in, but I got kicked out nonetheless.

Really? That's good to know. I had been led to believe that you could not get kicked out. Maybe you just cannot get permanently kicked out of guilds like you could in Oblivion?

I don't think you can get permanently kicked out of a guild in Skyrim. That would ruin the whole "be whatever you want, do whatever you want" theme the devs created. I'll take this system, nothing was more annoying then picking 50 whateverthatflowerwascalled for the mages guild in Oblivion after I had been kicked out.

Personally I prefer freedom with consequences to freedom with no consequences, but I hear you on the annoyance factor.

Remember the quest where you could loosen the fastenings on the moose head and watch it fall in the guy sitting in his chair. Good times.

You couldn't really watch it fall and kill him though, you were behind it and only heard the impact and scream. While that was a neat quest i think the Victoria Vicci method was way more exciting. :D

Personally I may be alone in this but after completing the DBH in both oblivion and skyrim recently(through recording) I've come to like skyrims DBH main questline over oblivions. It had more impact and twists and turns to me.

I must admit I was not expecting to have to kill that guy, haha.

You can be a psycho and kill like the terminator if you want. Astrid does offer bonuses, plus there are other incentives for stealth. The Mage in there cracks me up. He keeps talking about melting his victims faces off then running away from the guards.
