So... I'm angry

So, I've got some money with which I'm planning on buying a $20 PSN card (credit cards are not to be trusted on online sites such as the PSN, as far as I'm concerned). I want to buy two Final Fantasy games off of the PSN ($9.99 each), but there's a problem. Since I live in New York state, I have to pay tax on online purchases. So, while the games are advertised as $9.99 each and while I will have $20 in my account (technically $20.51 due to a remainder of $0.51 from previous funds), I'm only going to be able to purchase one of the $9.99 games because taxes will result in me being a few cents short and as far as I know, there aren't any $25 PSN cards or similarly marginally-more-than-$20 cards.

I refuse to do anything illegal such as pretending I'm in a different state or any of those other things such as that, but I'm wondering if a prepaid credit card would function on the PSN, instead. I'm not even sure if what I'm looking at are prepaid credit cards, but basically, what I'm looking at http://www.mastercard.us/prepaid-gift-card.html Does anyone here know, for sure, that I wouldn't just be wasting my money?

I'm 99% sure that it'll work. The missing 1% is because I haven't actually used a prepaid card myself, but after a quick series of Google searches, it seems to be okay. Not only that, but prepaid credit cards generally work the same way as regular credit cards, which obviously work with PSN.

A prepaid card will work, since it's just a debit card with a limited balance.

Yup, I have a friend who dosn't trust buying stuff online at all (in case he's hacked, as several people use his computer and will click on anything that pops up). He just loads up a re-usable prepaid to the amount he needs when he wants to purchase something online and then uses that. So basically if anyone does get his CC info, all they are getting is one with no money on it.

I don't know if it works for the PS online, but I know it works for xbox live market place. I odn't use a real credit card but either pre paid credit cards or now, I use re-usable credit cards since it's cheaper in the long run.

I feel more safer now using those for online purchasses now.

I fail to see how method of payment is going to matter, when your IP adress will show you as a NY resident, not to mention, any forms you fill out as the purchaser.
Taxes are levied for a reason, and if New York charges taxes for online purchases, and you reside there, and meet the critera of an online shopper, you should pay them.

is it an actual debit card? those can end up being scarier than credit cards because of their high overdraft fees.

OP, Just I understand the situation correctly, in the state of New York they tax online purchases. But if you buy a $20 PSN card, they are taxing your purchase of the card at the retailer, the purchase you are making WITH the card, or BOTH?

How is using a prepaid card going to solve the problem here?
