I am trying to decide whether to take the perk Shotgun Surgeon, it sounds great but I'm not sure how to determine if something actually qualifies as a shotgun. For instance, do rifles count? If not, I think I might pass on the perk. Sorry for my newbness, I know nothing about guns. -Meg

rifles are not shotguns. You will notice that when looking at the name

You will easily know what shotguns are.

For example: Caravan Shotgun, Riot shotgun, Hunting shotgun, etc. They're really only good for close quarters combat, because instead of a solid bullet, they have pellets that spread out when shot.

The only weapons that qualify as shotguns are weapons that load either 12 gauge or 20 gauge shotgun shells. Basically, if it doesn't actually have the word "shotgun" in the name of the weapon, it's not a shotgun.
