Any difficulty modding steamdownloaded versions

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 10:26 am

I remember from the older games you could have issues \running different mods on the steam or downloaded versions of the game. I'm ready to stop playing on my 360 and pick up a copy for the computer but wanted to make sure it would be completly moddable before doing so.

There is only the Steam version of the game, so no, there are no (avoidable) problems.

So long as by 'pick up' you mean 'purchase legally' then you wont have any problems modding at all. :)

It does seem like with Oblivion there were mods or utilities that wouldn't work properly with the Steam version of the game, though.

yeah that's what i was worried about. but it's confirmed skyrim modding will have no issues? perhaps it's too early in the moding life to tell

You can buy it other places, but you have to link it into a Steam account no matter what. I recommend just buying it right on Steam, that would be easiest.

There can't be mods that don't like Steam like with FO3 or OB, since ALL PC players have to use Steam. If a mod didn't work with Steam, it would never be created, thus all mods must work with the Steam version of the game. (Because that's the only version :P)

Have fun modding.

Ahh, I see what you're saying. So it requires an always on internet connection?

You need one to initially activate (And download) the game, but then Steam can be put into 'offline mode'. However it doesn't function perfectly and there are a lot of gripes about it. But that's Valve's problem, not Bethesda's.

It doesn't, but to leave it off, you have to put steam in offline mode. It's fairly simple to do, though. I left my steam in offline mode for quite a long time but now that I've adjusted to it, I've grown to use it more and more, so it's just left in the normal online mode now.

You won't have any problems. I second the steam suggestion, unless you want a copy of the disk on hand. It all requires steam still, but, at least you'd have that.

Edit: With the above, I had it left in offline mode for several months without any issues. So, YMMV. I've had no gripes besides not being able to occasionally roll back an update if a patch broke something.
