Talk to the Restoration Mage in the mages guild place. She has a refreshing unenchanted Mage Hood (that looks a million times better than the 'cowl' sold at other stores.)

Just tested this and can confirm. Looks just like the novice hood.

Go to the tailor shop in solitude, they have a few hoods there that are actually called "hats" but they look just like mages hoods.

I've seen them a few times in wardrobes and other containers that hold other clothes so I know they exist. Not what I would call common, however.

There are a few, but the one I can specifically remember is the Executioner's Hood off the dead bodies from the initiation quest into the DBH. I have mine sitting in my house more as a unique item than for any really purpose. Try that out...there may also be more of them but you'll have to look them up. They look awesome when you wear them, too.

I use the executioner's hood. Pure black and covers the entire face.

There were a couple of people at the College in Winterhold selling hoods that had no enchantments on them when I was disposing of my inventory last night. Most of the hoods were enchanted but I did notice a couple that weren't.

Collette comes to mind and -like mentioned above - the destruction seller. There is also a Akir(?Spelling) head wrap hood type thing that you can find that isn't enchanted. I saw one in a dungeon crawl as well last night.

Can you wear a hood and a Dragon mask at the same time? Now that would be awesome for my character
