Any ideas why there are no skirmishes?

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 8:33 pm

So this has always been in the back of my mind, why is there no skirmishes? Like i've seen a stormcloak walking beside an impearl and not try and kill each other. I've seen more fights between wolves and sabrecats then these two "super powers" so what gives? just wondering :P

This surprises me as well. It never ends up being good when they come across each other. And neither side ever tries to escape, it's to the death even down to the last man.

I have seen quite a few skirmishes actually. Seen some involving Thalmor as well.

I have seen plenty of small scale shirmishes between legionnaires and Stormcloaks, but having some of a larger scale would be neat.

I've got to try one of these out sometime. I worry about how bad they may slow my computer down though.

Warzones

Oh! Ok. I know of that one. I think there is something similar to Warzones out there. I can't think of the name right now.

Like i've seen a stormcloak walking beside an impearl and not try and kill each other.

I honestly think that has got to be some weird AI bug. I have never seen Imperials and Stormcloaks *not* try to kill each other when they come within like 50ft of one-another. In fact I thought it was pretty cool when during my very first hours playing Skyrim I came across 3 Imperials and 4 Stormcloaks having at it on the outskirts of Rorikstead and just a few hours after having the same happen at Darkwater Crossing.

How often have you seen them pass by each other peacefully? I would be genuinely surprised to see 2 groups cross without trying to murder the other.

It shouldn't be a mod. It should be in the normal game.

There are. I've watched multiple times where Imperial and Stormcloak troops ran into each other. They always fight to the death ...

Yes, I was posting to point out Warzones for the PC but I see ot has already been done. I also liked using Wars In Skyrim but development has been discontinued as far as I can tell.

I don't think I've ever seen Stormcloaks and Imperials come across each another.
Spoiler
The closest I've come to a skirmish was when I stalked Ulfric from High Hrotgar after Season Unending. When he came to Ivarstead... Well, let's just say he forgot about the ceasefire. :P

If you're on PC, get the Radiance mod from the Steam Workshop. It adds very nice skirmishes all over Skyrim.

I have yet to see the imperials win one of these.

Occupy Skyrim is an alternative that adds some Civil War skirmishes and other random encounters. This one doesn't result in a significant performance hit or alter vanilla cells.

Also, ASIS and Radiance both greatly enhance random encounters. Haven't tried Warzones yet, but using these three mods I've come across a few massive battles.

I only seem to see clashes when there's that random encounter involving a small skirmish. And that takes place in some weird places that don't make any sense. What they should have done is have small patrols randomly spawn in zones where opposing holds meet that follow overlapping paths giving them a random chance to meet and in which case they fight. That would have led to fairly regular random battles (with potentially wildlife or dragons involved too) and provided a sense there's a war going on across some kind of front lines. If the player decides to follow them, the patrols would ultimately head back to a camp and just stay there until they player leaves the cell.
