Any Nice Scenic Views Like In Cyrodiil?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:23 am

Oblivion is full of amazing views like the Imperial City, all the rolling hills, and lush forests. Any views like this in Skyrim?

Depends on what you think is "scenic" but, yeah, there are some beautiful landscapes plus lots of high points from which to view them. Here's a couple shots I took when returning to Windhelm from different locations.

That's obviously not the greenest part of Skyrim, but I like snowy mountaintops. For forest you'll want to venture into Falkreath or the Rift, for mountains minus the snow there's the Reach, for wide open tundra there's Whiterun. And Solitude's not my favorite city, but it's hard to beat for a scenic location:

Any of the Waterfalls in Eastmarch. The areas where the Darkwater River are fed from Whiterun Hold and The Rift are some of the best Wilderness views in the game, In My opinion.

Eastmarch?

One of the Holds. Eastmarch's capital is the city of Windhelm.

And yes, there are plenty of views like this, but they're more natural than the man-made (or should I say Ayleid-made) structure that is the Imperial City. I love standing on mountains, staring across Skyrim. :tes:

Eastmarch is the hold that contains the city of Windhelm. Much of its terrain is volcanic, dry with sulphur pools and hot springs. But the northern part is what you see in the shots I posted above, and at the very south where it meets the Rift you get some relatively lush areas where the Darkwater and White rivers join up. And yes the waterfalls there are pretty amazing.

Just outside the Greybeards monestry on the mountain. You get some great views of Riverwood, Bleak Falls Barrow and Whiterun.

Skyrim is much more rugged than Cyrodiil. But there are some great vistas. Less variety, mostly frozen mountains and tundra. Still they can be very beautiful in their way.

You can find them by just climbing some mountains. In particular I think some of the waterfalls are great.

There's less variety in Skyrim? Aren't there more biomes then Cyrodiil? Tundra, Marsh, the craggy Reach, fall forest, glaciers, snowy, volcanic tundra, autumn forest...?

The highlands to the west, in the Reach has views that are magical. Reachwind Eyrie, the Lover Stone, Lost Valley Redoubt, and of course Bard's Leap Summit have some of the best scenic views in the game.

I stumbled upon a very high cliff north east of Markarth but not quite in Solitudes hold. It was pretty high up.

Skyrim is nice, but nothing that beats Cyrodiils beautiful scenery in my opinion.

Even though I haven't played Oblivion, I'm gonna have to say that Skyrim's scenery would be hard to top for me personally. Again it all comes down to personal preference... I like the mountain vistas, the rivers plunging down from the heights, the snow, how "open" so much of that part of the country feels to me.

I know in my head that, say, Falkreath is beautiful in its own way, but I don't particularly enjoy traveling there as much of it feels claustrophobic to me.

Eastmarch, I love the volcanic tundra ????

I avoided it like the plague on previous playthroughs, but with my current character having a primary residence in Windhelm I am exploring it much more now. And I am finding stuff there that I never even knew existed before, just because I didn't bother to go look.

It really is amazing to me how much "stuff" is packed into the game world. I'm on my fourth playthrough, took the first three PCs all the way up to levels 50-60 and above in some cases, have played through all the major questlines at least once, joined every joinable faction, been (I thought) pretty much everywhere and seen everything. And I was barely out of Riverwood on this PC's first day in-country and I found three locations I'd never seen before, just because I decided to go to Windhelm instead of Whiterun and cut cross-country to get there. I've found passes through the mountains that I must have overlooked a dozen times or more with previous characters, and I'm still kicking myself for all those times I went around something instead of exploring a bit more in search of a way through.

I've been playing almost daily for nearly five months and I still get knocked out on a regular basis by stuff I wasn't expecting and didn't realize was there.

Riften's lake offers some great views during sunset at around 6:00 PM, I actually found it on accident while doing some quests for the Thieves Guild.

Rften is my favorite of the holds. So many nice colors.

Whoa, what gauntlets are those on the second picture Lyn?

They're the ones from the Heroic Stormcloak Armor:

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12377

This character started out as all heavy armor, but I joined the Stormcloaks early on and wanted to wear what they gave me and stay in uniform as much as possible for the duration of the CW. I found mods that changed the SC armor from light to heavy, except for the boots and gauntlets on the basic set that you get right off (which made sense because they're so obviously fur/hide/leather). So I went ahead and forged the Heroic gauntlets and boots to fill out my early heavy armor set. Switched off to the full officer's set when I got that, since it was modded to be all heavy, and saved the full Heroic set for when I was setting out to take Solitude:
