Any way to use more than 4GB?

Post » Sun Jul 22, 2012 12:24 pm

Sorry for title, meant to say 2GB.

I've looked around for 4GB patches, but I can't seem to find one that isn't outdated or doesn't work anymore. I also found that Bethesda patched Skyrim to use more than 2GB, but it was removed later? I'm getting crashes to desktop because I'm using more than 2GB, and it's very annoying. :(

I'm not clear on this. You've got 4GB of ram and Skyrim crashes because of it?

I've got 32GB and crash very infrequently, so maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

My computer has 8GB, but Skyrim by default can only use 2 and crashes to desktop when it uses more because of high res textures, mods, etc. That's what is happening to me. I'm trying to find a working patch that will allow more.

Its probably a mod issue because the LAA flag is still active so the vanilla game can and does use more than 2gb. You do have a 64bit operating system right?

Huh! Never ran into that. I'll get out of the way of the more experienced folks then. Good luck.

@Lexandro Yes I do. Any idea what kind of mod would cause that? I could give you a list of mods that I'm using if you want.

No real point mate because I have no idea what mods do in the gamecode, as Im on 360 with Skyrim. What I would suggest however is doing a test. Deactivate all mods & texture packs, copy and cut ALL files in the games data folder to another temporary location (new folder on desktop for ease) and start a new character off. If you dont get crashing due to memory issues then its a mod problem.

Best I can offer Im afraid. There isnt a "patch" for this kind of problem because the game, for all intents and purposes, still has the LAA flag on.

The EXE is LAA enabled (after much fuss), and so can use up to 4GB of RAM on a 64 bit system.

To use more than 4GB would require a 64 bit executable, something the engine doesn't support.

Oh, ok. I read about the LAA but it said somewhere that it got taken out later. Guess not. I'll try to figure out which mod is causing it. Thanks everyone!
