I miss the opening tune. Strange I have had it in my head all day for no real reason at all.

I love the new soundtrack. But Wings of Kynareth was one of the best game songs ever. It just won't fit Skyrim.

I love the rehash of Watchman's Ease and Silt Sunrise/Through the Valley's though. Jeremy Soule did one hell of a job. I'm very proud to be an owner of the soundtrack with his signature on it.

I like all the themes.. The last 3 are practically the same. I think it's one of the best ideas to adjust it for each setting. Oblivion's wouldn't work in Skyrim at all. The horn opening has a kind of "fanfare" motif about it, that you hear in movies whenever royalty is around. And that sets the pace for the actual game. Now there is no one to play that fanfare for. This world is falling apart. If there is a king or queen, they are coming with force. And that is what Skyrim might be about.

Yeah, I noticed some of the music in Skyrim seemed eerily familiar while wandering around on a sunny day..

It's weird. Basically every price of music in Oblivion I know off by heart and as I played it, I always found myself humming along to the music :P I guess it was catchy in a way.

However, on Skyrim I can't do it at all (apart from the theme). I don't find the music as memorable in Skyrim as I did in Oblivion...

I know Oblivion only came out six years ago, but I just got a very emotional blast of nostalgia when I looked up "Wings of Kynareth" on YouTube. That's one of my favorite game songs ever.

Morrowind and Oblivion had great music but so does Skyrim. Yes I miss them, I could play Oblivion again if I wish to listen to the wonderful music in that game.

I think many songs are designed with the land and themes in mind. Wanting Oblivion music is akin to wanting Oblivion itself (not a bad thing btw.. but that's why Oblivion exists).

I like the Oblivion music.

But I'm fine with Skyrim's music not including Oblivion's. If I want to hear the Oblivion music I could always play Oblivion.

It is nice they brought back some music from Morrowind.

I really liked Fallout 3 music too. But somehow hearing "Bongo, Bongo, Bongo I'm so happy in the Congo" while fighting Draugr might not fit so well.

No it came to a point where I couldn't even play the game anymore, and I can't play the game without music because I wouldn't know when creatures would attack me.

Wow, this thread surprises me. I played Morrowind then Skyrim (both near their release dates) and I still haven't quite gotten over just how amazing the music is in Skyrim. Not just the themes, but how they're implemented. Other than the incredible main theme, my favourite piece of music is the solemn flute song (with the slow drum in the background) that you occasionally hear in shops and taverns. Something I often lament in modern games is the lack of actual melodies as opposed to ambient 'film score' backing music, and Skyrim slew those worries with its strong selection of pieces - play Morrowind now and you'll notice the utter lack of background noise (compared to Skyrim's layers of natural ambience) and plainly obvious repitition.

I've barely played Oblivion (bought it recently as I saw it cheap, but I'm not nearly done with Skyrim yet) and I found it to be in between. I heard something that is likely the main theme, and it was beautiful, but other than that there wasn't nearly as much as I heard and loved in my first hour or so of Skyrim. As I say, I haven't really scratched the surface so I can't properly judge yet, but I'd be shocked if it outdid Skyrim.

I really thought this would be the ONE area where everyone could be united in saying "Yes, Skyrim is brilliant". Still, at least nobody's said "the music was clearly dumbed down to cater to today's gamers; it was good for two and a half minutes but I can't even play the game anymore".

Yet.
