Anyone else addicted to getting alchemy reagents?

Reuters reports that the butterfly population is nearing dangerously low levels in Skyrim in the last year. Unknown immigrants are being blamed for their dwindling numbers. More reports to follow.

Skryim keeps track of your destruction of the environment.
I just had a look at mine, Wings Plucked = 340. I obviously can't pass a butterfly without killing it!
The bunny rabbits don't fare any better. There's also a counter for how many of those you butcher.

I'm addicted to collecting mushrooms atm. I can't help myself when I see them and some dungeons have loads of them - they look so tasty! I'm trying to reach the level cap and I must have 1000s of ingredients in a barrel at my house to level alchemy.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: I decided that my first character would invest in alchemy. Then, I discovered how much time you have to spend on getting the items - and I won't even go into items that are only available in far-out places. So, I sold her entire inventory and never plucked a flower or wing again.

Even if the character does not use alchemy I still always pick ingredients.

Yes, I did this in Morrowind and especially Oblivion - would often (as someone else mentioned) end up miles away!

On the other hand, I pick up tons of ingredients in order to show myself where I have been - I know you can see on the map, but the point for me is to be able to know when the environment (and accompanying beasties) have reset, as a technique to aid immersiveness.

I do that, but I'm very selective with my ingredients because of encumbrance issues (I only use a handful of ingredients for all my potions). But this scenario is very typical:

me: hmm, there's the dungeon's large chest. Hope there's something good inside.
*spots imp stool on the other side of the cave*
me: ooooooh, mushroom!
*runs across to grab mushroom*

I usually ask the enemies to stop attacking me and be quite, I'm trying to sneak up on a butterfly. Also found a cave with like 75 chaus eggs, spelled that wrong.

I hate those butterflies tbh...my girlfriend had a great laugh when skyrim came out. Instead of doing any quests, MQ or SQ, i just chased those damn butterflies...i could chase one forever since it would fly over my head and my nord ain't a great jumper :(.

The biggest issue i had with chasing a butterfly is that i would spot another one, i'd just get confused since i can't decide which one to catch (seriously). :(
Guess who got really really really happy when he found a.....click on the spoiler tag below.

Spoiler
Butterfly in a jar

you can kill them with area spells then pick up their wings off the ground ;)

blue are the best Imo because they're an ingredient in making fortify enchant or smithing potions (forget which)

Definitely addicted. For now, I'm lying low and waiting for a lot of mod types I expect when the CK gets heavily into use, but the few hours I put into Skyrim already were often spent getting sidetracked into gathering ingredients.

Absolutely. I'm just glad most alchemical reagents don't weigh too much.

Huh, I guess I'm not the only one. I usualy end up picking up flowers and insects in mid fight with dragons or other encounters. I don't even do that much alchemy, just end up picking up 100's of pounds of ingredients and dumping them in satchel in Breezehom. I do have a small..issue.. with nirnroots though. Everyone by now probably already knows about the glow bug, but recently having started a new charecter in hopes it get fixed sometime in the future, I always make these scheduled trips to make sure I get them all when they respawn ><

I don't buy alot. But I grab everything I see. Then I usually store all of it right next to the alchemy station. Then when I need to make something just grab it all, make what I need and then put it back.

This.

Which is one of the big reasons I can't stand that "R" is "put ONE item in chest" but "take ALL items out of chest". Sticking 800+ lbs of alchemy ingredients back in when you've accidentally grabbed them all is a bit tedious.

@ everything in this thread

INDEED.

I try to get the mushrooms on the way out of a cavern, beacause they look so cool, I don't want to mess them up. I don't even do alchemy, but I can't help it. I need intervention. Addicted to shrooms.

Protip, get the dragonflies first, then catch the fish.

I just hate all the work and BS going into something that's a one-time consumable that I don't really need, anyways. I dunno, Alchemy was just never my thing in TES.

Which house? I use the Solitude house and there's nowhere near the alchemy/enchanting stations to store stuff. :(

Whiterun.

i've noticed that it takes time for my skyrim to show the ingredient when i point at them for picking,in oblivion it was run along and rapidly push spacebar, instant pickup but not so in this game which makes shopping on the run aggravating
